Yes, Now You Can Own and Play Slowhand's Guitar

There's no bigger name in the entire guitar world than Eric Clapton! The man is a legend with a career that spans over 40 years! So, as you can imagine, this is one musician that can play any instrument he chooses - and he chooses the Fender Eric Clapton Artist Series Strat. That's right, the same guitar you can own (though his comes with a custom paint job these days).

First introduced in the 1980s, today's Eric Clapton Strat has been updated with three Vintage Noiseless pickups, which work in conjunction with both a powerful active midrange boost and Fender TBX tone circuitry to create on of the most versatile guitars in the Fender catalog.

Eric Clapton Artist Series Stratocaster at a Glance:
  • Just like Eric's own guitar
  • Vintage tones plus midrange boost
  • Fast-playing maple neck with soft V-shape
Just like Eric's own guitar

You might think that a famous guitarist like Eric Clapton would pick some amazingly figured maple and ash, but in truth, other than the custom paint jobs, this is Eric's guitar. And once you play it, you'll see why he never asked for anything more. You start with a lightweight alder body with a Torino Red polyurethane finish and single-ply white pickguard. Next, thanks to the active 25dB midrange boost and TBX circuitry, you can go from crystal clear tone to a full-throated growl with the simple spin of a knob. Combine that with three of the latest versions of fender's Vintage Noiseless pickups and Eric's personal choice of a blocked American vintage synchronized tremolo, and you have the makings of a truly soulful instrument that sounds as great in the studio as it does up onstage!

Vintage tones plus midrange boost

The original Strat had three single coil pickups, so it was able to produce sounds that no other guitar could deliver, particularly once players discovered they could lodge the 3-position blade switch in those in between positions to access neck/middle and bridge/middle pickup combinations. These were often erroneously referred to as the out-of-phase settings. The Eric Clapton Strat comes standard with a modern 5-way blade switch, making it easy to access all the pickup combinations. It then adds a special active 25dB midrange boost on one tone control to give this guitar the extra meat you might expect from a humbucker. In addition, the second tone knob functions as a standard Fender TBX master tone control, which can smoothly go from bright and glossy to dark and smoky by rolling off the highs!

Fast-playing maple neck with soft V-shape

Leo Fender wasn't afraid to think outside the box when it came to guitar designs - after all, he was an engineer, not a guitar player. In the 1950s and well into the 1970s, the blonde natural maple neck became almost synonymous with Fender guitars. The Eric Clapton Stratocaster comes with a 1-piece maple neck and fingerboard with 22 vintage-style frets and Eric's personal favorite soft V-shape. In keeping with contemporary player preferences, the fast-playing neck is finished in a smooth satin polyurethane.

Doesn't Get Any Better

This is my 2nd Clapton Strat, and I'm just as happy with this one as I was 5 yrs ago with the first one. The db boost makes it so simple when it's time for some lead. The neck is fast and comfortable, and tone is just what you'd expect. Buy It !!

Fabulous Guitar

This is the only Fender I own, but it earns equal playing time with the Gibson Les Paul, the PRS CE24, and the Gibson SG when I'm playing one of my solid body electrics. The guitar is fairly simple, without much bling, but is quite striking and elegant in its own way. In my view, its most outstanding feature is that it simply feels great and plays beautifully all up and down the neck. The action is terrific and between the weight of the guitar, the balance, the feel of the body and the neck, and the incredibly smooth action, this axe is just flat-out playable. The pickups are very responsive, producing a sharp and crisp sound, with plenty of treble bite, and the controls permit some growling as well. The intonation is perfect, the factory set up required no tweaks for my style of playing, and the instrument stays in tune extremely well. I spend more money on guitars than any sane person should, and I can (and did, and will again) spend a lot more money on other guitars, but I'm hard pressed to find a better playing instrument than this Strat. The value for the money is unequivocally five stars. Sometimes simple is all you really need...For a note on the Sweetwater folks, when this instrument arrived, the guitar was absolutely perfect but one of the latches on the case was defective, so I called my SW rep (John Short) and he immediately arranged for a replacement case to be sent. No hassle at all. Since then I have purchased three more guitars and other miscellaneous gear from SW and those folks have been great to work with. So five stars to the SW team as well as this instrument.

Gorgeous & Versatile Guitar!

First off, let me say that Sweetwater is a great company to buy from. They have outstanding customer service, ultra-fast shipping, and financing options that are very helpful to persons like myself who are on a budget. As for this guitar, it has made me so happy! I am a longtime Stratocaster enthusiast, and I have been obsessed with the idea of owning a red Clapton model for sometime. The soft V-shaped neck is extremely comfortable to hold and play, and the appearance of the light-colored maple fretboard looks absolutely stunning next to the cherry-red finish and bright white pickguard. Best of all, the noiseless pickups and TBX tone controls allow you to really push your tone into the realm of humbucker-ish sounds. You can play heavy metal on this guitar just as easily as you can get silky, clean traditional Strat tones. This guitar is amazing and I am delighted to have it! Thanks Sweetwater!

A Different Deal

The neck shape, the vintage frets and the TBX combine for a singular, even unique Strat. From a Twin, a Hot Rod, a Vox AC15 - does not matter, it just sounds great. Vintage frets need work more often than medium jumbos, but are effortless and worth the extra attention. Not my only Strat, but it always makes the trip.
