Great axe for the $$ - feature rich!
Got this Deluxe Roadhouse about 7 or 8 months ago and was torn between this MIM and a USA Strat costing twice as much. For me, it's not about cost or the common stigma associated in owning a MIM, it's 100% about what feels and sounds right. You simply cannot go wrong here: beautiful fit and finish, tortoise shell pickguard, parchment knobs/P'up's, TINTED maple neck, TX Specials...just has the look and sound that I was longing for. With a little tweaking, you'll get that classic SRV tone. The only "out of the box" adjustments I made were adding tension to the trem springs (a must as this axe has a fatter tone bar and will bottom out and on mine, it caused the action to be too high...extremely simple fix!) and I adjust the P'ups: 8/64" bass and 6/64" treble and intonation. (I think it's unrealistic to think you can get a guitar out of the box where some minor adjustments aren't necessary.) I've tried a multitude of different strings and I keep going back to the Fender Bullets (9's) as they just feel right to me. I love this axe and of my 9 or axes, this has been my "go to" axe lately for it's great feel and sound. I'm very glad I opted for this model and I wouldn't change a single thing on it...great as is stock and not only did it cost less, but has the P'ups I wanted that would have added another ~$200 to the USA model costing nearly double this. If this axe is any indication of the quality that's coming out of Mexico in general, kudos to Fender! You can't go wrong.
