The Most Generous Offering Fender Has Ever Made
Locking tuners, 2 point modern trem, 12 in fingerboard radius, S-1 switching, noiseless single coil pickups. If all those features have value to you will NEVER get a guitar with this much value at this price again, brand new.
The 12 in radius on the fingerboard seems to make the chords easier to finger without muting them in the first position. I usually need a wider nut width to accomplish that. My fingertips are like cigar butts. So don't let the nut width deter you from buying or trying this guitar out.
The S-1 switching is a very usable modification and I like having the new tone option.
The tuning stability is excellent. Once you are in tune, just use your trem bar to knock it back if any string goes out , but it will be rare that you need to. Fender still hasn't come around to using self lubricating nuts for some strange reason so some graphite powder or shavings in the string grooves on the nut will probably work for months or with every EZ string change as insurance to completely eliminate that problem.
The noiseless pickups are great, and the overdriven sounds with them are a great as well. The slight compression you get with them is well worth the noiselessness and all the chime you still get. Too big of a deal is made I believe, in the trade off that has to occur somewhere. Stacked single coils are really humbuckers without all the 'hair'. And to me that represents the very best of both worlds. S-1 switch combined puts it on steroids.
I returned this particular model because the pink in it was 2-3 shades more prominent than in the picture but I purchased another Strat with the same features and the thinline tele model as well for $100 more.
Fender is famous for its limited run guitars that never return. You really do need to buy this one. It plays exactly like a MIM Nashville Tele I played for 10 years but with a premium hardware update that is impossible to say no to.
I now have 2 noiseless Fender guitars with almost all the premium features of the Elite models for less than one of them.
