And because it plays like a broken-in instrument as well, and packs a trio of hand-wound Strat pickups (Fat '50s and a Texas Special), the 1950s Stratocaster Journeyman Relic Closet Classic packs iconic Strat tone too.

Broken-in feel and look with a Journeyman Relic lacquer finish

Though a relic'd guitar finish is almost as common these days as a flawless factory finish, it was the Fender Custom Shop that pioneered the process and knows it better than anyone. With the Journeyman level of relicing, you get a look and feel that's used but not abused. Imagine a loved guitar that's been well taken care of, but also definitely been played. Totally broken in, but holds up like a brand-new electric guitar. They're popular at Sweetwater for balancing the worn-in feel of an old guitar with the reliability of a new one.

Three hand-wound pickups for iconic Strat tone

This Strat packs a trio of single-coil pickups: a Fat '50s at the neck, a reverse-wound Fat '50s in the middle position, and a Texas Special pickup at the bridge position. Fat '50s pickups are loaded with Alnico V magnets with Formvar-coated wire, fiber bobbins, cloth-covered lead wires, and staggered, hand-beveled pole pieces, yielding the glassy highs and warm lows you'd expect from vintage pickups. Hot-rodded wiring also delivers higher output and enhanced bass response. The Texas Special pickup is an overwound, calibrated, vintage-style Strat pickup with plenty of midrange chirp, crystal highs, and tight bass. Alnico 5 magnets and enamel-coated magnet wire deliver enhanced output.

AAA flame maple neck

Made from AAA flame maple with a comfortable '57 soft-V profile, the neck on this 1950s Stratocaster Journeyman Relic Closet Classic will feel great to any Strat fan. A gloss finish enhances the natural look of this choice maple and maintains the simple elegance of classic Stratocasters.

Fender Custom Shop 1950s Stratocaster Journeyman Relic Closet Classic Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:
  • Vintage-style Stratocaster
  • Broken-in, but not beat up, Journeyman Relic lacquer finish
  • 2 Fat '50s single-coil pickups (neck/middle), 1 reverse-wound for hum-canceling tones when combined
  • Texas Special single-coil pickup at the bridge delivers high-output tone
  • Resonant and lightweight alder body
Get a vintage Strat with modern reliability - the Fender Custom Shop 1950s Stratocaster Journeyman Relic Closet Classic.
