    Fender modern player Starcaster

I wanted one of these when they were out in 1976, but couldn't afford one.
When I saw they brought it back, I jumped. Everything about this guitar is AWESOME. I've never been a fan of humbuckers, but I find that Fender knows something about them that no one else knows.

    Starcaster Review

I like the look of this guitar; for playing this guitar no one will mistake me, to be the next Hendrix or the next Clapton -- I can be alone to be myself... Still I'm not sure this is the exact guitar for me, but it seems to fit my songs; still to many unknowns....

The weight is good; it plays and feel good; and with the two volume and two tone balancing the pickups give a more complete sound; although mastering the balancing of all four knobs along with amp settings is a continuous process more than a one-an-done....

It makes me smile just to see it....

I've been playing guitar for 52 years and I worked as a night club musician when I was younger.

When I first saw this guitar with it's odd shape, I thought, "man what an ugly guitar." But when I played it I loved the sound and the shape kept it balanced on my leg unlike the bottom heavy Coronado. Also I've come to like the shape which makes the guitar more distinctive and favors the Fender Jaguar shape. I would have given it a 5 rating except it has a little more sustain than I'm looking for. I'm experimenting with different strings and amp settings to see if I can get the sustain more to my liking. I looked at semi-hollow body guitars for 2 years before I choose this one. And I would definitely buy it again.

    A very nice gitar indeed

I have been desirous of this guitar since I saw it for the first time back in the seventies. I think Fender did the right thing by adding the center block and a stop tail piece. The originals are rumored to have tuning issues. I don't know if that is a fact or not, but the new construction will go a long way in preventing those rumored problems. I think it looks better too!
It played great right out of the box. Good setup and intonation. (Thanks to the 55 point inspection that Sweetwater does). The fit and finish is excellent. I am on the fence about the headstock design although I am leaning more towards liking it because it is true to the original design.
The tone is an excellent departure from the standard Strat tone. The pickups are clear and crisp and they work well when overdriving my amp. The pickup selector moves in a horizontal plane which to me, is not a natural way of moving your pick hand when changing pickups. That is my only gripe. Fortunately, I own the correct tool for tightening these types of nuts so I rotated mine to a more suitable angle for me. You may like it the way it is, so take this complaint with a grain of salt.
If I could specify my preferences, I would ask for a rosewood finger board as I have never been comfortable with maple fingerboards.
That being said, all in all it is a home run.

Received the guitar , it was amazing looking. The shape, the Fender pick ups and strat neck. The sound was so unlike any fender ( I know semi hollow body) . I was very young when this guitar was introduced , so glad I bought this with the help of Matt McKibble at Sweetwater( can't thank Matt enough for his work) . I was able to choose the right one for me. I have enjoyed the playing it and received a lot of compliments on it . Great addition to my collection and a part of Rock history. Just wondered why Fender would make a guitar like this and no case. Not would I would expect from a company that would spend the time and effort on a reissue and not want to make sure that it was protected properly.

    Great guitar

I have wanted a Starcaster since I saw a photo of one of the originals in a Fender book I own. When Fender announced the re-issue, I jumped. Although I am a Strat guy at heart, I have always loved the tones I get from my 335. This guitar marries the two nicely. The neck feels just like a Strat neck. Although bigger than a Strat, the body is comfortable. The Wide Range humbuckers sound full and clean. The pickup switch position will take a while to get used to, though.
I am very pleased with this guitar!
