Vintage Bass Tone Reborn

Remember the Starfire bass? This Guild Starfire semi-hollow bass guitar brings back that classic bass sound from the '60s, favored by groups like Jefferson Airplane and the Byrds. The Starfire's thinline semi-hollowbody is comfortable to play, but gives you the organic, resonant sound and haunting overtones of a hollowbody instrument. The Bi-Sonic pickup is positioned just right to give you the iconic tone you've heard on countless records. When you need distinctive bass tone in a gig-ready instrument, you can turn to the Guild Starfire bass every time.

Guild Starfire Semi-hollowbody Bass Guitar at a Glance:
  • Short scale neck for tonal magic
  • Thinline semi-hollowbody for comfortable playing and rich tone
  • Based on the classic '60s Starfire
Short scale neck for tonal magic

Of course the short (30.75") scale length of the Starfire bass makes it easier to navigate the fretboard, and is perfect for beginners and players with smaller hands. But did you know that the scale length of a guitar or bass has a direct impact on its tone? The harmonics your bass guitar generates are spaced along the strings based on the length of the strings - shorter strings mean the harmonics are packed in tighter, giving any note you play more harmonic richness than a longer scale would. Just plug the Starfire bass into your amp and you'll see what we mean, as notes come alive and cut through the mix without being overbearing.

Thinline semi-hollowbody for comfortable playing and rich tone

Try as you may, you just can't get the same vibrant, overtone-rich sound of a hollowbody bass with a traditional solidbody. But instead of giving you a bulky instrument, Guild gave the Starfire a thinline body style that gives you the woody thump of a hollow instrument plus the easy-playing comfort of a traditional bass. Take it from the Sweetwater crew - the Guild Starfire has the tones and playability you want in a bass.

Based on the classic '60s Starfire

Classic rock recordings have no shortage of warm and groovy bass tones served up by hollowbody instruments. Bands like the Byrds and Jefferson Airplane relied on the original Starfire bass for their rhythmic foundation. You can get that vibe too, with the Guild Starfire semi-hollowbody bass.

Guild Starfire Semi-hollowbody Bass Guitar Features:
  • Thinline semi-hollowbody based based on the '60s Guild Starfire
  • Bi-sonic pickup serves up rich, vintage-style tone
  • Short-scale neck for harmonic-rich tone
  • Exceptional tone and looks from laminated mahogany back, sides, and top
  • 3-piece mahogany/maple/mahogany neck for long-term playability
  • Grover Sta-Tite tuners give you excellent tuning stability
Create unmistakeable tone with the Guild Starfire bass!

Great Vintage Bass

Back in 1970 we were starting a Band. I became the Bass player and had to learn on the job. I bought a late 1960's Starfire Bass at my local music store. I came to love playing that Bass and it's the only one I played in the Band all through the 1970's. I loved the smooth, mellow bass tone. I had not played a gig for years after 1980 and in 1994 my beloved instrument was destroyed in storage by water damage. I was devastated. I never thought I would ever have one again. Then in 2016 some of my old Band members got back together for a Reunion Gig. I had reason to play again. I have a nice Fender Bass but it just isn't the same. I found out by shopping on line at Sweetwater that Guild had reintroduced the old Starfire Bass exactly like my vintage one. I immediately ordered it and when it came to my house and I opened it up and strapped it on it was like hugging an old friend you haven't seen in decades. I had tears in my eyes and I plugged it in and began to play. Guild did a wonderful job recreating this instrument. I really does play, feel and sound just like my old one. I am 100% satisfied and happy. And my great guy Luke at Sweetwater is the best.
