Epiphone Slash "AFD" Les Paul Special-II Performance Pack - Appetite Amber Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar Pack with 15W Combo Amplifier

Offering more appointments than most of Sweetwater's other entry-level electric guitars, the "AFD" Les Paul Special-II was designed by Slash himself. Topped with AAA flame maple, this guitar also features a dark cherry mahogany body and neck, ivory binding, and a silk print of Slash's Snakepit logo on the headstock. Prepare yourself for some thick, overdriven, screaming metallic tone the first time you plug into the included Snakepit-15 combo amp's overdrive channel — the tone that Slash made famous. Complete with a premium gig bag, signature guitar picks, and eMedia online lessons, the Epiphone Slash "AFD" Les Paul Special-II Performance Pack is a great all-inclusive bundle for beginners, or anybody who is searching for quality and affordability.

First guitar - love it

By Daryl Lolling from NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA, MN on January 31, 2023 Music Background: Grew up playing Baritone wind instrument.

This is the first guitar I've ever bought, and I have to say I'm very happy with my purchase. I read the reviews online about this guitar pack which were very favorable which is why I selected this particular starter pack. I also purchased this starter pack from Sweetwater because of their great customer service ratings and now I understand why the ratings are so high. Shortly after my purchase I received an email from a Sweetwater employee letting me know that they are inspecting and setting up the guitar before sending it to me to make sure that everything is perfect. I was given an ETA every step of the way to my house and it was accurate. The 2 year warranty is also a huge plus and gives me peace of mind. I utilized the free two weeks of the Gibson app for lessons and I'm not disappointed. The 50% off over Christmas was enough to make me purchase the annual membership and I've been using it happily for 2 months. The guitar holds its tune very well and I especially like the built in tuner. I have not used the amp much due to the Gibson app not needing the Amp but it definitely seems adequate for a practice amp. And the Sweetwater sale price was definitely a good deal. I ended up purchasing a hard case because the soft case has no padding whatsoever so keep that in mind when purchasing. The strap is comfortable and adequate for a beginner guitar and the Slash picks are a nice touch. Overall a great deal for the money.

New guitar student

I purchased the Epiphone Slash AFD Les Paul Performance Pack because of its high ratings online. I bought it from Sweetwater because of their high scores on customer service. The day after I ordered the Guitar package I received an email and a phone call from my personal customer service rep thanking me for purchasing from them and assuring me that he was always available for any questions. He also checks in occasionally to see how I'm doing. Can't ask for more than that.

Iconic

By Joe from Missouri on December 1, 2022 Music Background: Total Newbie

For someone like me, this guitar is simply iconic. Having grown up in California during the 1980's, the image of this guitar alone brings back memories of a time when I was absolutely blown away by the unique sound of a band the whole world has come to know. Their lead guitarist was content to wear blue jeans and play a rather plain looking instrument during a time when other bands were wearing wild outfits, and playing crazy shaped guitars in loud colors. I realize this Epiphone model isn't a 1:1 replica of Slash's axe… but, it is close enough to make you feel like an absolute boss while playing it.

The quality of this instrument for the price seems exceptional to a novice like me. Since purchasing this guitar, I have handled a few similarly priced guitars, and none of them bring about the same desire to play like this one does. Being entirely new to guitars, I honestly assumed this would be somewhat of a toy when I bought it considering the price. And while the accessories that come with it are obviously of entry-level quality, the guitar itself seems to be very well put together. No doubt a person *can* graduate to more refined/expensive versions, but I wouldn't think it would be a matter of NEED. I have no doubt that this guitar is capable of providing many years of regular use without any unusual problems. The sound it produces is nothing short of amazing to my ears.

If you're on the fence about buying one of these, go for it. It is a very nice guitar. I am so glad that I made the purchase.

This guitar brings all the power an les Paul style for an affordable price it delivers an amazing overdrive power that only les Paul can bring I've always loved the les Paul style so I decided to buy one an try it an I'm glad i did i will upgrade to a more expensive style later but for now I'll continue shredding on this beast I recommend anybody who's beginning to play to get this guitar an also get a good amp so you can truly enjoy this guitar !!!

It all plays very well indeed!!

By Jeffrey Bruns from Greeley, CO on December 15, 2017 Music Background: Former guitar instructor; played in 3 different kinds of genre bands; I enjoyed playing for weddings the best though.

This guitar and amplifier are a lot of fun to make music with. It/they truly deliver everything it/they says it will and then some. I am really, really glad that I bought this one over some of the other package combos that are available.

Even better in person

By Capantherfan on August 26, 2015

Up until now I avoided guitar packs due to what you lose in package deals. The build quality and sound this guitar produces is better than any I've heard at this price. The guitar is high quality and the combination of built in tuner and Very precise tuning machine makes this perfect for beginners and seasoned players. The amplifier is much better looking than the picture gives credit. Sound was clean and compares well to higher priced models in same watt range. The touches added by Slash for this model are evident compared to other special II combos. I highly recommend it.

Almost Perfect

By RICHARD from california on January 9, 2019 Music Background: new to guitar long time piano player

I am new to guitar but not music having played piano. The fit and finish great, very faint fret noise and I have playing it alot .Amp is waaay better than I expected, it was all there strap, picks and gig bad. I am giving it 4 1/2 stars only because of the bag and the ugly top hat knobs. I bought a new Gibson Les Paul Studio 1 week after I got it as an incentive to learn on this and while the gibson does play better, if you are playing less than a year or two you probably might not be able to tell difference. And once again, aside from the knobs( easy fix) the guitar looks and feel GREAT. If you are just starting out I highly recommend it. Also if you are a gigging musician looking for a back up,or a sweet Les Paul with all the eyeball this is way better than the pictures.

Good value, good quality

By Wash from SC on December 27, 2017 Music Background: Gigging Musician

I am very impressed with this purchase. Got it for my teenage son who is learning the ropes. Guitar is well crafted, amp sounds decent, accessories are the essentials. The finish on the guitar is really good and it plays smooth. Strongly suggest this purchase for a beginner.

Great way to start Slashing!

By JJ from NC on December 16, 2015

Great starter electric guitar with good power. I bought this for my 14 year old son. The amp is pretty good, but very straight forward. You can spice it up by adding pedals, but don't expect many different sounds out of the combination of amp and guitar. Overall, as a starter combo pack, it has delivered for my son.

Great little guitar

By James Stewart from Ft. Lauderdale , Fl on January 9, 2023 Music Background: 30+ years of playing drums , and guitar . In the studio , and live .

I'm a drummer but want a cheap guitar to mess around with . I thought a starter pack would be perfect so I get amp also . I'm shocked by this little guitar . It came out of the box perfect, and felt amazing . It stays in tune it feels very solid . It just needs better strings . The amp on the other hand is a let down , it sucks . But with the quality of the guitar, who cares . You'll definitely get your moneys worth .

Best bang for the $

By Wes from N.C. on November 15, 2022 Music Background: Mainly drums.. I love guitars though.. Drums I don't collect I got a badass kit and that's that but the guitar collection can grow..

Only 1 minor issue I'll get to that in just a min... doesn't neck dive.. being my 1st Les Paul I'm amazed by the finish.. it's very light same weight as my sg can play for hrs. and won't feel the weight on your strap.. I got a old heavy guitar that I learned on 5 mins. into it your ready to smash it.. this is a game changer.. the amp is way better than I thought it'd be. The built in tuner was in pieces floating in the box didn't take but a minute to figure it out.. even the box it came in is loaded with presentation.. awesome job guys this kit rocks

Decent starter pack

By Gary from PA on December 7, 2019

Bought this as a Christmas gift for my son. Was a little worried about how it was going to be, but is actually a good package. Guitar plays well. Amp sounds decent. The only complaint I have is the gig bag isn't padded very well. But I guess that is to be expected in a package deal. Overall I think it is a good deal. Thanks Sweetwater!

Great Starter Package

By Rick from Lexington on March 22, 2019 Music Background: Intermediate player strumming in retirement

I bought this starter package three years ago. I was looking to take up the

guitar again but had not played since college over 45 years ago. That being said I wanted to ease back and not spend a ton of money to see if I would stick with it. It is a good starter package the guitar looks great and the amp was very good for practice. The rest of the package, gig bag , strap, and cord were not the best but for the money it was ok. Since it was a package... it did not get the 55 point evaluation so mine arrived not set up at all. Had to take it to the music store in town and $65.00l later it was playable. It is a great inexpensive Les Paul and I"ve enjoyed it . Since then I"ve up graded to an Epiphone jumbo acoustic and a Gretsch Electromatic but I still play the Slash occasionally since it got me back on the guitar.
I would recommend this for begginers or hobbiest who just want a nice guitar to play around with or to Learn on. One other thing the emedia lessons consisted of three lessons on how to hold the guitar and the notes onthe strings. The rest was a link to the website to sell the program. I did end up buying their programs and they are quite good and helpful .

Looking for the real Les Paul and Slash sound

By IAN McIntosh from Queens,NY on November 22, 2022 Music Background: I'm 56 been playing multiple instruments for almost 45 years, also vocals.

I only gave 3 stars cause I'm basing it on what I have seen and heard from people reviewing and playing this guitar. I'll probably give it a 4 or 5 after I get the Slash afd package home. There is 1 thing I need changed to buy this package right now though. I need the top finish to be cherry sunburst. Don't really like the look of the gold top. Both for Slash's personal guitars and for my personal liking.

Great at first

By Gavin Rogers from Indiana on February 26, 2020

I bought this bundle in July of 2019. It was great. I used this guitar nonstop, and the amp was amazing. Even the picks are comfortable and durable. Having the chromatic tuner on the pickups of the guitar is such a unique idea. Unfortunately, after about 5-6 months of having it, the tech starts acting up. First, the amp starts to static. Then, the input starts screwing up, not working unless it's set at a specific angle (which is very easily moved). Even the tuner will start decaying. It doesn't pick up sound like it used to.

All in all, this is a good guitar for about 5-6 months. If you want a beginner guitar that has good quality and is set at a good price, grab this, then buy a better guitar once signs of issues appear. The amp is great until static occurs, so buy a $100-$200 amp after that starts happening.

Don’t let other reviews fool you

By Andrew on June 1, 2018 Music Background: Been playing for half a year

This thing is wonderful for beginners. But then "it happens" knobs starts acting weird and cutting sound, amp starts to buzz and crackle (a lot) frets buzz, nut and tuners seem like they"re made from a matchbox car and the pickups get dried adhesive everywhere...

It’s ok

By Sweetwater Customer on September 1, 2020

First of all I'm not a beginner and this guitar is definitely a beginners guitar. I got this guitar for Christmas and it played really nicely for about 3 months until It happend. Everything just started to go downhill. Every time I switched the pickups from neck to bridge there would be no sound unless I hit the strings really hard and the amp started to buzz and crackle. The tuners were being very jumpy and felt very cheap. The pickups did not sound good and didn't have a loud tone. My final review in this is if you are a beginner but your don't know if you are gonna stick with guitar you should get it but if your a advanced guitarist I'd play a esp or Gibson
