Sweetwater Advice

  • Joel Helton

I enjoyed composing my last piano and flute suite using Avid Sibelius 7. The performers also enjoyed it because they had a very clean and professional score to read from. Sibelius 7 was also a vital tool in an orchestral score I recently composed for a short film. The great sound library played it back, allowing me to hear it without having to hire an orchestra. Plus, I was able to import the video and sync the score to it - all from within Sibelius! Whether for publishing or performance, I highly recommend this program.

Great software, but a bit daunting without the reference book

If you can hear the music in your head . . . Sibelius can certainly help you get onto paper or digital form with your DAW. This program is to say the least "excellent." It has got a learning curve . . . I'm still living on that curve right now, but every time you spend an hour or two with it the more comfortable you become. From the simplest of simple to the most compex orchestration you can dream up . . . Sibelius has got you covered. It's not cheap, but then since when is "quality" cheap?

Sib 7 - INCREDIBLE Software, Avg Samples, NO MANUAL (?)

*Sibelius 7 Software: 5/5 Stars (It would be 10,000 out of 10,000)
*Sounds that are included with Sib 7 Purchase: 4/5 - Mostly because they are included w/ Sib 7 at No Add'l Fee (so software will work 'right out of the box') But the way the Samples 'Sound/Playback', is below average.
*Plug-Ins: 5/5 Stars (Enough going around, so there is something for almost everyone)
*Manual: - ~ / 5 Stars - - - NOT INCLUDED(?) ...Wait, sorry ...DIGITAL MANUAL (?) Thanks to the help from my Sweetwater Salesman, Aaron Regenald, I was able to purchase the best DAW I've ever personally owned. He helped me make sure I got an incredible 'Foundation', that I can add to over time -BUT- out of 8-12 different pieces that I needed, the ONLY item I received that DID NOT COME WITH A 'Hold it in your hands' MANUAL, was Sibelius 7! (?) But Avid WILL sell you one! >8^|

I love the new Video capabilities, so Film Scoring tools are now also included w/ Sib 7, it took a big step forward for anyone interested in that arena.

I'm a loyal Sibelius fan who, after trying about 8-10 different Notation Software products (From Finale, Notion, World Symphony, etc...), I can still say that I believe that nothing is a 'Productive' as Sib ...Even Finale looks good, but falls short.

    Sibelius 7

Sibelius 7 is so extraordinary and complete it is almost impossible to put it into perspective. An absolute must for a serious composer today. Again, Jason Koons knows his stuff. Joe
