Next-generation Recording Quality, Simplified

The TASCAM Series 208i USB audio interface packs an impressive amount of connectivity into a compact and rugged desktop format. And with its built-in effects and processing, you'll be able to treat your audio with reverb, compression, and EQ on the way into your DAW software. For maximum flexibility in your home studio, the Series 208i features a DSP-based input/output mixer than you can control via the free TASCAM Control software. With four XLR/TRS combo inputs on the front panel, and two 8-channel optical inputs around back, the TASCAM Series 208i USB interface offers up to 20 channels of simultaneous recording.

Ultra-HDDA mic preamps capture detailed nuances

The Series 208i interface employs TASCAM's Ultra-High Definition Discrete Architecture (HDDA) mic preamp design that delivers audio with extremely low self noise to capture every detail of your musical performances. Each channel also features a TRS jack with switchable line/instrument-level operation, so you can easily track keyboards, guitar, bass, and other instruments alongside your microphones.

Built with mobile recording in mind

At Sweetwater, our Sales Engineers put together recording solutions that work for you, and one of the things today's engineers and musicians need most is the ability to record wherever they want. The tough all-metal housing and reinforced ends make the Series 208i rugged enough to withstand hotel room recording sessions on the road. The sleek, angled design keeps your levels in sight and offers easy access to gain and volume controls. It's small enough to fit in your laptop bag, but powerful enough to trust with your next masterpiece.

Includes DAW software

The Series 208i comes with Steinberg DAW software for recording and mixing your music. In addition, you also get versions of IK Multimedia AmpliTube guitar amplifier modeling software and T-RackS mastering software, along with iZotope Neutron Elements.

Solid interface - No complaints

I took a gamble on this one and I am not disappointed. Setup is simple, works perfectly with Cubase, no latency, and every feature you could need in an interface. Nice tabletop design keeps rack space free for other signal processing units.

Swiss Army knife of audio interfaces

I ordered this from Sweetwater at the start of the pandemic lockdowns. Over the past couple months this interface has really impressed me. I've used it as an interface to record church piano into Studio One, I've used it to stream audio into Zoom meetings, I've used it directly into the stock iphone and ipad camera app to have quality audio on my iOS video, I've used it as a mixer with send and return from an effects processor, I've used it to record my partner's singing projects while using an input for a talkback mic and providing multiple monitoring options. It has provided a solution for every situation I've found myself in during the lockdown. I think the sale price makes it a great value for money. The only things I'd like to see improved are:

While the gain is clean and transparent up to 75%, it is still a little under powered for my single coil Tele and low budget large diaphragm condenser mic. It is just adequate.

The silver gain knobs have markers that are not filled in with paint which makes it difficult to see where they are set sometimes.

When using it as a mixer, the software while easy to navigate and understand, can be very cumbersome in actual use. The meters are poorly marked and one of the routing options only works while its open. So you can't set it and go back to the mixer page and have your settings still active. Also, I wish the software faders and settings would respond to the scroll wheel of my mouse like most DAWs.

Still even with these shortcomings,I really like this interface/mixer and can highly recommend it.

Does not work with streaming programs

Pro good price
Looks incredible and chic.
Has pretty good preamp's
Love the fact that it had dedicated +48 V switches
Has built-in mixer after you download the firmware to your computer.

My only con.

After so many years of using a large eight channel interface I wanted to downgrade to something a little smaller. I live stream a lot of shows for multiple places around where I live. My eight channel interface was just a little too big for what I was actually using it for. Nine times out of 10 I would pass through a soundboard into the interface only using 1 to 2 channels depending if I wanted to make a stereo image or not. So the moment I got it I went through the paces of testing making sure everything was working properly. I will say this this is definitely the perfect interface if you just want to record music straight into a DAW. But if you were looking to use it for streaming in addition to recording this is not for you. It is not compatible with streaming services like Facebook live and YouTube. Even using external programs would not pick up the interface. Every DAW I had had no trouble Locating and finding Interface. Because it has a built-in processor and a few other I have no doubt at some time in the future it will be Supported for streaming.
