Ampeg SVT-610HLF 6x10" 600-watt Bass Cabinet with Horn Reviews

600W, 6 x 10" Bass Cabinet with 1/4" and Speakon Inputs

The SVT-610HLF from Ampeg is the speaker cabinet for the bass player who demands the best of both worlds - deep, tight bass, with a generous helping of definition and top-end clarity. The SVT-610HLF delivers massive bass, thanks to six 10" speakers that work together to move a tremendous amount of air. You'd need three 18" or four 15" speakers to move as much air as the SVT-610HLF! And they simply wouldn't be able to respond to transient peaks as quickly as Ampeg's 10" speakers. The SVT-610HLF also delivers superb top end, thanks to its 1" horn driver which is strategically crossed over at 5kHz.

Great cab

By Kurt S on January 24, 2024 Music Background: Pro

This my friends, is a badass air moving beast. I had the 8x10 and the 4x10. Both great, but this one is just right.
Clean high's and booming lows. Can't go wrong with this one!

ampeg 610

Great Cab. Sounds like an Ampeg. Like The 810 with more fullness is the only way to describe it.

Extremely Disappointed

By Nick Sosebee from Senatobia, MS on March 9, 2022

I want to start off by saying Sweetwater has been great…no issues with them at all…

At one time I was an Ampeg fan. Been a while since I've been able to buy any of their gear. So I was really excited to get this cab in finally after it was back ordered for a couple months. Unboxed it and plugged it up to check it out. Started getting a cab buzz at low volume. Ended up taking the baffle cover off to check everything out. As it turns out the front baffle is busted in several places.

This is not shipping damage either. This issue looks like a process issue at the manufacturer. It looks like the baffle was assembled using a mallet to beat the sheet into place. I'm really disappointed in Ampeg's quality on this one and it seriously shakes my confidence in their products. They were recently bought by Yamaha, but I thought that may have been a good thing.

I would advise against this cab and others from Ampeg if this is what they are putting out.

had them all... this is the best .

I have used every brand name out there ,every configuration of cabs, stacks vs. combos ,to a full svt with 2 cabs .
Tight punch is the secret to using tens for bass....and each Ampeg cab is tuned for a certain sound .The 8-10'was too much too often , the 6-10 '
For covering ALL the spectrum ...this cab is it !!!
All bass roads lead back to Ampeg .

A modern classic

By Robby Ray from Oklahoma on June 27, 2019

I was debating on getting either a Classic 6x10 or the 'refrigerator' 8x10. I decided to go with the 6x10 after reading several positive reviews, and not it's time to add another to the list. This thing THUMPS. I paired it with a new Ampeg SVT-7Pro and it handles the 1000 watt output very nicely. Nice lows, bell-like mids, and crisp highs due to the adjustable horn (which I keep at around 11 o'clock). Super solid construction, nice casters and a handle make this easy to transport, and the plastic rails on the back make it super easy to load into my little hatchback. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for that classic Ampeg tone and also wants better portability than the monster 8x10. Plus, it looks clean as can be. Very happy with my purchase and for the amazing Sweetwater customer service!

Finally found it

By Pete from Ct on January 13, 2019 Music Background: 40 years studio and live

After many months searching for a cabinet that would handle my Mesa amp this was the best. It handles the low notes like I"ve never heard before even tuning down. I would recommend this cab after 40 years of of playing that you would need nothing else with any amp head

Get this cab!!!

By Brad from NKY on November 3, 2018 Music Background: Gigging musician

I"ve never owned an Ampeg cab before. My last cab was a Markbass 410 cab. But I"ve always wanted an Ampeg. So another bass player recommended me to get one and I did. And WOW! This cab moves a lot of air and I got a lot of compliments on my sound. I"m running this cab with a Markbass Little Marcus 500 head. And the two together make the bass gods happy! I drive a Chrysler 200 S and this cab fits fine across the back seat! Sweetwater fixes a shipping problem (FedEx"s mistake) and made sure my cab got delivered again to me before I the following Friday because I needed the cab for a gig. And Sweetwater came through! Great customer service and great products. But back to the point LOL. BUY THIS CAB! The horn is good quality. Speakers thump. And at 600 watts RMS I maybe used only 275-300 watts of it for a gig and it stayed clean. No muddied sound or distorted sounds. Clean, chest bumping bass.

Best cab ever!

By Robert from Fort Wayne on October 10, 2016 Music Background: Local musician

I have had many different cabinet confurations, from many brands, 210, 410, 412, 410 & 115, 112. This 610 in the best cabinet I have ever owned, from the fast response, to the great low end, and the excellent tone, for what ever style you play, this cab can do it. it is fairly easy to transport, and fits in the back set of my Camry! My only regret is, I did not got with this sooner. Brian and all the Sweetwater staff are very helpful, and extremely knowledgeable.

Worth it!

By The ZE Funk Man from Austin Tx on May 27, 2015 Music Background: Metal, rock, slap, pop, hip hop, Groove baby

I hook this loud one up to my Ampeg Svt-3 Pro. It's an intresting line up because the pro is 450 watts 150 watts below the "safe" amount of air this cab can blow comfortable, which is around 600 watts. And its termendous. I play In a Metal band , and you know how it can be.... Noizy! I kid you not, I can and honestly be the loudest one in the band (Petriphoria) but do to equalization of a band I try to stay close to there volumes, but what can I do ignore all the fat bass sound I can deliver easily with the great misses 6x10? Great cab. Very economical fits long ways behind most vans and trucks. Dont be suprize how easy the black lineing around the amp scraps off, or how easly the weels get beat up (but dont give out). Definitely worth it.

The best all around bass cabinet

By BassManJosh from Fargo, ND on August 31, 2014 Music Background: 17 year professional

I've owned quite a few cabinets in my days, SWR, Ampeg, GK. This one is the best sounding cab you can get anywhere near this price. Prior to buying this a year and a half ago, I used the 410hlf for a couple years. Although the 410hlf is amazing in it's own right, it's really tuned too low and lacks the informative mids you'll find in really high end cabs. Don't get me wrong, this thing will blow the 410hlf out of the water on lows if you make it, but it's an extremely natural sounding cab. It's like a Bergantino without the extra price. If you're looking for something that can handle your 5 string well and sounds like a boutique cab, this is the best kept secret in the industry.

Thunderous Bass from a compact cabinet

By Daniel Froburg from Haverhill, MA on June 5, 2014 Music Background: Pro Musician, Recording / Live / FOH Engineer

In terms of sound, this cabinet has more low end than one would think possible for the size of it. You'd expect there to be 15" speakers in it to reproduce some of the lower frequencies that it does. A lot of this has to do with the venting. Most people I have talked to about it say they prefer the 6 x 10 cab to the 8 x 10. I tend to agree. The 8x10 lacks the venting that the 6x10 has, and you can hear the difference. I play in a metal band, and until I got the 6x10 I'd never heard my guitar player ask me to turn down.

I like the fact that you can use either 1/4" or Speakon connections. I always prefer Speakon, as they are more efficient, handle more power, and lock into connection. My amp loves it, I have a ton of headroom now.

Even though the cabinet is heavy (115lbs), it is designed so that it perfectly balances on the casters when you tilt the cab using the grab bar. It feels like wheeling an empty hand truck! The only problem there is that without strapping the cabinet in, it tends to shift during transport in the band's trailer.

The reason I gave the cab 4.5 out of 5 is that the wood in the construction of the cab is thinner than they used to...I had a much older 8x10 that had thicker wood. Having said that, I would buy another in a second.

The SVT-610HLF Bass Cab

By JimmyC. from Goffstown,NH on April 9, 2012 Music Background: semi-pro musician

Simply put a superb bass cab...not too heavy to move around yet not "cheapy" feeling or too light ..sweet deep low bass and nice mid to high's as well.......my band mates love the thing..I'd never use another.I have to admit standing on stage in front of this cab?... makes it all worth while.. nice bell-like tones and deep lows ...as a good bass cab should be.

Ampeg SVT-610HLF

By LJ from Sydney, Australia on November 16, 2011 Music Background: Pro Musician, Recording Engineer, Live Sound Engineer

The SVT610HLF is a truely awesome cab, it creates and delivers more low end that a 810 due to the front venting system, it absolutely rocks.
