Pure, simple tone.
If you're looking for pickups that recreate the "original" Fender tone, these are for you.
Lots of other manufactures want to sell you "Texas" or "Blues" pickups, but the fact is, the sounds we know and love that came from our rock and blues heroes who played strats made in the 50's and early 60's were created with stock Fender pickups. These pickups accurately recreate the tone and character from those "glory days" of Fender pickup design.
The neck pickup is warm, but not muddy with plenty of treble focus to cut through the mix. The middle pickup is a joy; one of the few middle pickups you'll want to play through on its own. The bridge pickup is strong in the treble, but also holds onto a tight bass response. Positions two and four (the in-between spots) chime and quack just like you want them to.
This set is full of bell tones, and distinctive highs. It could be said that as a set, these pickups will turn your strat into a high definition tone machine.
If you have any doubt about these pickups, don't. They're 100% worth every penny, and you won't look back. However, if you're a hard rock player, or into high levels of distortion, these may not be for you as they're vintage output (low) and won't drive an amp like today's modern higher output pickups. The downside however of having more output from a pickup is you lose clarity and definition throughout the tone--so you need to assess your needs and wants from a pickup.
If you're looking for quality, and great authentic vintage tone, the SSL-1 set (California 50's) is definitely for you.
