The perfect tone for rockabilly, country, blues, and more

Most of the musical styles that sprang from the sound of the electric guitar were originally established on the sound of pickups that were just like Seymour Duncan's California '50s. That's because Seymour Duncan designed their California '50s around the same core ideas. At the core, each California '50 pickup features a staggered pattern of hand-ground and sand-cast Alnico V magnets. Combined with vintage-correct materials such as Formvar magnet wire and hand-fabricated forbon bobbins, these pickups give you sweet, bell-like mids, sparkling high-end bite, and a percussive "quack" that adds just the right amount of grit to your rhythm-style strumming.

Reverse middle pickup gives you even more tonal flexibility

Unlike most true vintage pickup configurations, Seymour Duncan California '50s set gives you a reverse-polarity, reverse-wound middle pick up for an even broader range of tones. What that means is that in positions 1, 3, and 5, your Strat style guitar will give you classic 3-position tones. But in positions 2 and 4, the reversed phase of your California '50s middle pickup will combine with the standard bridge or neck pickup, essentially acting as a humbucker.

These Duncans provide classic tone that serious guitarists swear by

Check out some of the big names using these amazing Seymour Duncan California '50s pickups. There's Reba McEntire's guitarist, Dan Schafer, and Shania Twain's guitarist, David Levitt. Doug Pettibone, who plays for Alanis Morissette, uses California '50s as well, and so does Scott Henderson from Lucinda Williams's band. These are just a few, but their some of the hardest working guitar players in the industry and absolute gurus when it comes to vintage guitar tone. Take you cue from these pros and others. A Great Improvement!

I put these into my Squier Bullet Strat to get a better sound out of it, and to try my luck at my first guitar part upgrade. I have not been disappointed, and they are a definite step up from the Squier pickups! Whenever I get a better Strat, I will definitely be putting these into it!

sweet sweet tone

I will keep it short and to the point. I put these in my strat, mainly because I heard good things and they're a favorite of John Frusciante, whose tone I love, so I gave them a shot. The tone is versatile, musical, bright and warm, essentially what you want from a strat. Expressive, responsive, clean simple beautiful tone. Pickups are subjective, there is no best, but you can rest assured that these are an excellent choice.

Seymour Duncan SSL-1 pickups

Recently purchased Seymour Duncan ssl-1 pickups for Fender Stratocaster squire project guitar. I found my squire in a pawn shop for $25. I completely dismantled removining all the electronics. Changed tremolo And nut. Upgraded everything to Fender parts using cloth wire and connected the Seymour Duncan SSL-1 Pickups. The newly constructed guitar sounds great has the true stratocaster ring and loving it. Glad to get rid of the ceramic pups.

Pure, simple tone.

If you're looking for pickups that recreate the "original" Fender tone, these are for you.Lots of other manufactures want to sell you "Texas" or "Blues" pickups, but the fact is, the sounds we know and love that came from our rock and blues heroes who played strats made in the 50's and early 60's were created with stock Fender pickups. These pickups accurately recreate the tone and character from those "glory days" of Fender pickup design. The neck pickup is warm, but not muddy with plenty of treble focus to cut through the mix. The middle pickup is a joy; one of the few middle pickups you'll want to play through on its own. The bridge pickup is strong in the treble, but also holds onto a tight bass response. Positions two and four (the in-between spots) chime and quack just like you want them to.This set is full of bell tones, and distinctive highs. It could be said that as a set, these pickups will turn your strat into a high definition tone machine. If you have any doubt about these pickups, don't. They're 100% worth every penny, and you won't look back. However, if you're a hard rock player, or into high levels of distortion, these may not be for you as they're vintage output (low) and won't drive an amp like today's modern higher output pickups. The downside however of having more output from a pickup is you lose clarity and definition throughout the tone--so you need to assess your needs and wants from a pickup. If you're looking for quality, and great authentic vintage tone, the SSL-1 set (California 50's) is definitely for you.
