Ibanez SR805 so sweet!

This is my second bass guitar. I have borrowed and tried many different basses, and ended up with an Ibanez SR300 from Sweetwater for my first bas, which I really liked. I prefer the feel, weight, size and neck of the SR's in general over some other brands. The SR300 served me very, very well. I started eyeing what my next bass might be when a gig bag zipper came open and my SR300 fell to the concrete driveway....:(. Well, this kind of raised the focus on next bass. So I shopped a lot and tried lots of options, still coming back to the feel of the SR series. I definitely wanted upgraded pickups, and was weighing 5 string and fretless options. I came across a used SR805 and took a chance with it. I am completely pleased with this bass. The sound is so good, the tone, the feel, everything I liked about the SR300, but at a whole new level. In my first session playing it my wife came running in floored by the tone. She used descriptions like "sounds more acoustic ", "fuller", "more organic". The look of the bass is way cool, very classy, pictures don't begin to do it justice. I get a lot of compliments on the look and tone. The feel is very impressive. Fit and finish is terrific. I did do some setup changes, but it didn't come from Sweetwater, so no surprise there. Sound is full, very adjustable, I can get a wide variety of tones out of it.Anyhow, I highly, highly recommend this instrument to anyone looking to step out of a beginner or even intermediate level bass into a very serious instrument that punches well above it's weight.

Looks Good, Sounds Good, IS Good

I purchased my new SR805 shortly before going to a world-famous music camp in Tennessee. I was a little hesitant to do so because this was my first 5 string bass, but I sucked it up and decided to make it my number one instrument at Camp. I can't tell you how many compliments I got on my beautiful bass - many of them from world-class musicians. I found the fret board and neck just perfect for me, the tone was so great, and I was in heaven the entire time. I am completely pleased with my new bass and I know that this is one I will never get rid of and will be my main instrument for years to come. I have eight other basses, but this one is my baby!

Really good bass

I'm a multi-instrumentalist and not a full-time bassist, but here's my assessment. Great finish, solid build & construction, wide tonal variety, good playability, good action right out of the box, and nothing to argue about at this price range. EQ is responsive, passive vs. active offers nice tonal variety. The only somewhat distracting thing about this bass is the frets seem a little too edgy and could be a little more rounded, but that's just my personal preference (again, I'm not a full-time bassist, so I haven't had many basses to compare with.) I don't think you can go wrong with this bass. Be aware, the input jack is really tight, so I wouldn't use any cheap cables. This is actually a good thing - no cables being carelessly pulled out of the input jack.
