Excellent product for itīs Price Range

Iīve been using Sonar (and formerly Cakewalk) for around 16 years by now. I decided to upgrade my Sonar Home Studio with this version and Iīm very satisfied. I didnīt take me too much time to understand the new interface and after a few minutes I was able to start recording. I havenīt had major issues with projects from previous versions, except some plug-ins that are not working anymore, but I can survive with that (Actually the plug-ins are the ones that need an update). This is an affordable software (not between the most sophisticated and expensive ones) but it has enough for descent Music Production. Highly Recommended.

    Life Saver!!!

I had 3 weeks until I had to submit 2 songs for a movie score. My computer crashes and I lose all files and all of my programs. No back ups(yup...a hard life lesson for me). Not enough cash to replace my previous Cubase version and disc destroyed in a move. Sweetwater to the rescue!! I was recommended to look at Cakewalk. I pulled the trigger and bought the program. Cakewalk's "ease-of-use" saved my life. I was able to make 2 great recordings in a short period of time thanks to Cakewalk's user friendly program. I love it!! I can't wait to dig deeper. Cool plug-ins and editing tools make this a great program. Go buy it, it's worth every penny.

    Great Product

After years of contemplating a move from Cubase to another DAW, I finally decided to pull the trigger and picked up SONAR X2 Studio. I have to say that so far I have no regrets. SONAR is really easy to use, and installation was pretty straight-forward. After living in the cluttered world of windows management that is Cubase, SONAR was a breath of fresh air. Their interface is totally dockable and you can set it up any way you want. I have to say that this is probably the single biggest wow factor for me. Workflow is awesome

I got down to the business of recording, and it was also pretty easy. I set-up my audio interface and recorded a few guitar tracks. TH2 is pretty good and great sounds out of the box. I also checked out some of their synths and they give you a lot of sounds, pretty usable. I'll dig in more on that soon. Effects seem pretty good as well.

Overall, seems like a great package for the money..YMMV. I am looking forward to doing more recording but so far no regrets. Gripes...hmm, none so far. Except maybe I wish i had gone for their Producer Edition with the ProChannel.

    Great Features,great price..but...

...the ideas that were implemented in this DAW,are only great in theory.

Features that I like; shortcuts to the multiple preset window configurations are innovative & are very convenient.
The 32 bit bridging in the 64 bit version is fantastic...but unfortunately,it's one of the many causes for Sonar crashing at random.
Freeware compatibility is superb also-but again, this is spoiled by the constant crashing.
Video support has the potential to be a great feature as well, but some videos do not produce a thumbnail view in the track lane and what's worse...much worse,is that certain video codecs will crash Sonar.

As for the built in plug-ins...well..you would think that Cakewalk-exclusive VST's and effects would be the most stable...but some of the older synths do not work at all and certain effects like the Tube Leveler and the Transient Shaper will crash your project.

A friend that recommended Sonar for me,said that if I avoided using automation and take lanes, that I would be fine(however though,he does not work with video or 32 bit VST's..as I had found out later)...so the instability issues go much deeper than that.

I have a 6-core,2.80Ghz PC with 1TB HD and 8GB of RAM and despite all of the adjustments I made within my audio interface's settings & all of the power optimizing adjustments I've made within my PC,I cannot stop Sonar from crashing.

Even at X2 Studio's current price,I couldn't possibly recommend this DAW to anyone.
