When we were searching for new monitors for one of our studios here at Sweetwater Productions, we had several criteria that had to be met: excellent resolution, even response, great definition, and clear stereo separation. When we heard the Sonodyne SM100AK, we knew that our search was over. The Sonodynes met and exceeded all of our demands and expectations — and at a price that was well within our budget, but with a sound that competes with much more expensive speakers. Simply put, these are great monitors! -- Chet Chambers, Studio Manager/Producer, Sweetwater Productions
That simple. You mix, you burn a cd, you take it to the boombox, car, Disneyland,... wherever. Your mix sounds the same.
All the details are there. I'm kinda freaking out here.It was never that easy to be pleased with a mix outside the studio before.
Dare to say we have a new industry standard.
Man, they sound sweet.
THANKS VanAmerongen for the perfect advice.
These monitors will give you everything you want/need. They are clean and responsive from low to high, with no noticeable coloration. A ran a series of my projects along with a variety of songs from other professionals in different styles and was absolutely in love with how clearly everything came through. I was tempted to pop a beer and just sit there listening to music out of these speakers for hours.
To say I'm impressed with the new Sonodyne monitors would be an understatement. When I first tried them out I thought, great, another studio monitor. I've heard them all-but-these are the most natural sounding speakers I have heard yet. No hype at any frequency and they're smooth from the top to the bottom at any volume level. The imaging is amazing too. I tried to find something I didn't like about them and couldn't. They very well could be the new standard in mixing.
This monitors sound great, much better than my Event 20/20's
I matched them up to my Event 2020 monitors and it made them sound muddy in comparison . Low end is great to. I'm looking forward to mixing with them ...
Great Monitor overall
After first receiving a faulty speaker, being shipped a new one here are my initial thoughts. Excellent imaging! The separation is a beautiful thing. Mixes sound clear, wide and you can hear things you may have been missing before. All of this is a good thing. Top end is good, can be bright but not on the brittle side, wide sweet spot. Making mixing a pleasant experience, but also providing necessary detail to make proper decisions. The somewhat cons would be that there is a slight noise floor. However making input gain adjustments and gain staging with your incoming signal drastically cuts this down. Just be keen that you may want to lower gain on the knobs rather then having them full blast. Doing this helped reduce hiss tremendously. Bass doesn't go down as low as some monitors. As mine are breaking in, I think they have enough low end to mix on, just lacks the weight some may prefer, as it charts down to 60 and then drastically rolled off. Not really a big deal, and as I get used to these I am finding comfort zone to mixing low end.
Bottom line is that they sound fantastic, the imaging is stellar and they are revealing enough to be more expensive. I prefer these over the studios Genelecs costing more then twice as much overall.
