This is the best 7-string I've played in this price range. The neck is extremely comfortable. It's thin but not too thin. The compound radius makes chords and fast soloing high on the neck equally playable. I really like how this neck is just a tiny bit narrower than comparable models from other manufacturers. Makes it easier to wrap your hand around it, mute certain strings, and simply makes it easier to get used to if coming from a 6-string.
It came really well set up from Sweetwater. Action was low with no buzzing (when playing with a light-medium touch). If I really dig in there is a slight amount of fret buzz on the first 2 frets of the B and E strings but that's to be expected with this low of action.
This guitar has some serious sustain and resonates well. It sounds great even unplugged which is always a good indication that it will sound great plugged in.
The EMGs are great for a modern metal sound, though I do prefer various passive pickups for more versatility. Maybe at some point I'll swap them. Or, maybe I'll just get another SLAT, swap the pickups, and have both.
There really aren't any negatives with this guitar. I wouldn't mind swapping the tuners for some locking Schallers but the stock ones seem to work well and the guitar stays in tune nicely.
