The Gibson Super Jumbo: be part of a proud heritage

Gibson's Super Jumbo guitars were originally built to cut through the loudest acoustic ensembles, allowing them to compete with the mandolins and banjos that were prevalent in "pre-amplified" times. It's still a thrill to hear the well-balanced sound of a Super Jumbo ringing out loud and clear. The maple sides and spruce top pump out a throaty tone that's equally great for high-octane strumming and delicate fingerpicking. Everyone from arena rockers to country artists to blues greats choose these guitars for their incredible sound, projection, build quality, and, let's face it, stunning looks.

Dovetail neck-to-body joint, for optimized vibration transfer

This is the classic construction used on all of the collectable Gibson guitars of decades ago. This design includes a large amount of contact between the neck and the body and uses a puzzle-piece type of connectivity. This massive neck joint is stable and allows for the best possible tone. After a good quality solid spruce top, this is the next most critical element of tone. Along with the neck-to-body joint, the Gibson SJ-200 Vine's top is crafted with the finest solid Sitka spruce, making it one of the best-sounding and most collectable guitars of all time.

Nitrocellulose lacquer finish, for sound that improves with age

Gibson Montana uses nitrocellulose lacquer finish on all their acoustics for a reason. The lacquer finish is thinner than polyurethane, which allows the wood to vibrate more freely for better tone and projection. Also, since a lacquer finish is porous, it allows the wood to "breath." Thanks to the lacquer finish, as your SJ-200 Limited-edition Vine ages, its sound actually improves - just like the great violins of the 18th century (Stradivarius, Guanerius, etc.).

Hand-scalloped top bracing delivers exceptional tone

Another feature of the SJ-200 Limited-edition Vine is Gibson's weight-relieved hand-scalloped top bracing, which provides strength while allowing the top to vibrate with a piston-like action, which is another one of Gibson's secrets to exceptional tone. For over 100 years, the Gibson artisans have known the truth that the top of an instrument is not just a vibrating wall. Gibson carefully scallops and arches each top brace to focus the sound to the center of the guitar top. This technique is one of the reasons why artists, sound engineers, and listeners have acclaimed the sound of a Gibson as among the world's finest.

Superior guitars start with the finest hand-selected materials

The magic of the Gibson SJ-200 Vine starts with hand-selected solid tonewoods: Sitka spruce for the top, and Flame maple for the back and sides. The guitar is adorned with breathtaking appointments: an abalone rosette and top trim, a four-bar abalne bridge inlay, and abalone dots in the tortoise pickguard. The piece de resistance is, of course, the instrument's namesake abalone vine inlay along the fingerboard and headstock. A hand-selected solid Sitka spruce top from is adorned by an abalone rosette and an engraved vine pickguard.

Classic Gibson craftsmanship yields impeccable sound, looks, and playability

Gibson's reputation as a fine guitar builder dates back to the late 1800s. Handcrafted since day one by some of the most skilled luthiers around, Gibson acoustic guitars have inspired countless players around the world. When you pick up a Gibson acoustic, you know you're getting the finest tonewoods, quality hardware, and incredible attention to detail. These instruments are built to sound great and stand the test of time.
