Seymour Duncan Pickups - It's all about the tone!

The SH-PG Pearly Gates pickup was originally conceived to conjure tones similar to the pickups found in the venerable 1959 Les Paul Standard (the guitar that set the standard for blues guitar tone). And chock-full of tone it is! Described as "sweet but slightly rude," the SH-PG Pearly Gates pickup makes your amp come alive with the perfect blend of sustain and harmonics, not to mention a nice, bright top-end. A versatile pickup, the SH-PG Pearly Gates can be paired with virtually any humbucker for a variety of tonal options.

Sound

The SH-PG Pearly Gates pickup has a tone that can be characterized as warm, with a slightly hotter-than-vintage humbucker output. You've heard the SH-PG on everything from blues to classic and southern rock to modern rock, its versatility is the key to its success. Originally designed as a re-creation of the pickups in the '59 Les Paul Standard, the SH-PG mimics the tone that defined the raw, rebellious sound of Texas blues-rock. The Pearly Gates pickup is sweet but slightly rude, with great sustain and a bright top end that makes harmonics jump out of the guitar. It comes with a 4-conductor hookup cable to facilitate a variety of pickup-switching options.

Complete setup

The SH-PG Pearly Gates pickup is often used in both neck and bridge positions and can be used in the bridge with an APH-1 Alnico II Pro in the neck for smoother tones. A Pearly Gates pickup in the neck with an SH-11 Custom works well for heavier rock sounds from the bridge position. The SH-PG Pearly Gates pickup is great for brighter-toned instruments and works especially well with maple and ebony fingerboards. It also works great with hollow and semi-hollowbody guitars.

GREAT ROCK AND BLUES TONE

I've been using Pearly Gates since 2006 when I put them into my Gibson Flying Vee guitar. These pickups have a sweet bluesy tone and they can do anything from Texas boogie to metal to jazz and all points in-between. I don't think of them as high output, more like a hot set of PAF (which is what they're modeled from). These are not dull sounding in the high frequencies like some high-output humbucking designs, the Pearly Gates sounds beautiful direct into a Blackhole Reverb and straight into my mixing console, gorgeous tone.

I've loaded Seymour Duncan pickups into almost every guitar I own and ALL the guitars I regularly play have SD's in them. Consistently great sound, excellent volume balance from bridge to neck on pickup sets. Amazing value IMO.

Good music to you

Worth every penny

Bought a set neck and bridge for my Epiphone Genesis pro deluxe. Had the guitar gutted just to accommodate these pickups. It was worth the time and money. My guitar never sounded sweeter.

Gret tone. perfect for my application.

Dropped this and a PG Bridge pickup into an Ibanez Semi hollow Artcore AS93. Replaced the stock PU's. Crytsal clear and nice full tone. Especially the neck PU. Picked up the AS93 used at $200 below street price, and these PU's along with some locking heads turned it into a great guitar. Very pleased.
Music background: live and studio working musician
