Vintage appointments

The Gibson Custom Standard Historic SG Standard Reissue is dripping with vintage vibe. Its neck is attached using hide glue, much like the original '60s models. the truss rod, truss rod washer, and anchor are true to their original form. And the Kluson Deluxe machine heads feature the proper vintage profile, color, and performance specifications. Additionally, the SG Standard Reissue's mahogany body with twin cutaways, pointed horns, beveled edges, and nickel-plated hardware immediately conjure memories of the loud classic rock tones this guitar was made for.

Custom Bucker pickups deliver vintage PAF tone

Beginning with high-end potentiometers and capacitors, every part of this solidbody electric guitar's internal signal path was designed to give you absolutely dead-on SG tone. Of course, it's next to impossible to find genuine '50s PAFs (even for Gibson). Instead, this Custom SG Standard sports a pair of Gibson's CustomBucker humbuckers. The CustomBucker is the most historically accurate PAF copy ever produced.

The Gibson SG - a brief history

In the early 1960s, Gibson sought to bolster its reputation as a quality builder of electric solidbody guitars in the midst of slow sales of their now-iconic Les Paul. Originally intended as a new model of the Les Paul, this new design failed to obtain the endorsement of Les Paul himself, and as such was renamed the "SG" (Solid Guitar). The newly-minted Gibson SG was thinner than the Les Paul, with two cutaways, pointed horns, beveled edges, and no body binding. Originally advertised as having the "fastest neck in the world," the Gibson SG is presently one of the most-copied solidbody electric guitar models in the world.

Looks like they nailed it

I haven't played this reissue, but from all of the photos, it looks identical to 1966 Standard which I bought new when I was in high school. It even looks as aged as mine does. I just wish that I had one of those nice cases that are shown. Mine is still in the original cardboard alligator case. It's classic, but doesn't offer the protection that a vintage instrument needs. Oh well, one of these days (but then again, I've had fifty years to replace that case).

Looks Accurate

OK I don't own this but I do own an original 1962 SG Les Paul. From the pictures it looks amazingly accurate. The knobs, switch tip, pick guard all right on. Color is perfect as mine is unfaded. The only difference is mine has the sideways vibrola which was used on some SG's of the era.The neck joint is smooth, no lip just like mine and not like most current SG's. The neck heel does appear larger than mine. Note too that the beveling is deeper on the early SG and this looks the same. Good job Gibson and cheaper than the 12k for the original although the PAFs in mine are half the value of the guitar!
