A Modern Active Ribbon Mic!

NEWS: Royer Labs has been given a GRAMMY award for their outstanding ribbon mics! In the words of the Academy, these mics "were revolutionary and moved the art of recording forward."

Years of research and testing have culminated in the creation of the Royer SF-2 active ribbon microphone. The Royer SF-2 is an active monaural ribbon microphone, exhibiting flat frequency response with condenser-level output. The Royer SF-2 has superb transient response due to its ultra low-mass, 1.8-micron ribbon assembly. Frequency response is excellent regardless of the angle or placement of the mic. This ribbon mic shines when used on choir, piano, woodwinds, strings, and other acoustic instruments. Grab an SF-2 and see what you have been missing in your recordings.

Royer SF-2 Active Ribbon Microphone Features:
  • Active electronics give you the output and sensitivity of a condenser
  • Extremely low residual noise
  • Ribbon element not affected by heat or humidity
  • Consistent frequency response regardless of distance or angle
  • Very low magnetic leakage
  • High efficiency toroid matching transformer and gold plated output connector
  • Ultra compact package
Capture the sound you want every time with the Royer SF-2 active ribbon mic.

Absolutely World Class

I don't hand out five star ratings; the product must earn it. The SF-2 is one of the world's three best sounding ribbon mics and, because of its ability to use phantom power, perhaps the most consistent because it has enough gain to sound good with any mic preamp. So it is likely to be the ribbon you use most often. I would compare it to an exceptional musical instrument. The output is uncolored and natural. When close miking acoustic instruments it requires no EQ or very little because, unlike even the finest condenser, it's a ribbon's nature not to exaggerate the upper mids and to minimize key and finger noise. It is more silky, less brittle, a quality ideal for digital recording. Finally, in comparison to some other ribbon mics, the pickup is consistently accurate throughout its range. I carefully compared the SF-2 with other (top of the line) mics and, for miking individual instruments, think it may be the most versatile. It's a tool that costs more than some competitors. But if one tool can replace the need for others, then in the long run it is a wise financial investment. It's also a wise "artistic" investment.
