Zach Myers Signature PRS SE

Zach Myers from Shinedown worked closely with PRS to create his signature model electric guitar, and the result is a gorgeous Singlecut with resonant, semi-hollowbody tone. The mahogany body sports a lone f-hole, providing a rich, woody foundation for the flame maple veneer top. The headstock has been redesigned to now sport Paul Reed Smith's signature, adding extra "cool" factor. Individual tone and volume controls for the dual SE 245 humbucking pickups let you fine-tune your tone for everything from smooth rhythms to the hard rock and searing leads Myers is known for. Take it from Sweetwater, the SE Zach Myers has gorgeous looks and wicked tone.

PRS SE Zach Myers Semi-hollow Electric Guitar at a Glance:
  • Vintage-style tone from a pair of SE 245 humbucking pickups
  • Semi-hollow construction
  • Unmistakable PRS neck
Vintage-style tone from a pair of SE 245 humbucking pickups

The PRS SE 245 is fitted with two PRS-designed SE 245 humbucking pickups. Based around great vintage humbuckers, these pickups are clear and punchy. Sweetwater guitarists immediately noticed the ability of these pickups to conjure mellow chords one minute and punch the front of an amplifier for high-gain tones while maintaining attack and clarity the next. And the mahogany body ensures these pickups deliver the full low-mid tone that fattens all of your single-note playing for singing sustain.

Semi-hollow construction

The Paul Reed Smith SE Zach Myers semi-hollowbody electric guitar sets itself apart from many of PRS's other instruments with its thinline construction. By using this popular construction technique, PRS and Myers have created an instrument that sings with the sustain and feedback resistant-nature of a solidbody, while imbuing its tone with extra air and sweetness. Not to mention, this also makes the PRS SE Zach Myers a much lighter instrument for those marathon gigs.

Unmistakable PRS neck

You'll find a Paul Reed Smith Wide Fat neck profile gracing Zach Myers's signature SE semi-hollowbody electric guitar. This neck carve feels substantial in your hand, much like a vintage, dual-humbucking electric guitar. It is extremely comfortable for chording, and adds sustain and thickness to your guitar's tone. Capping the neck is a warm-sounding rosewood fretboard that is adorned with Paul Reed Smith's instantly identifiable birds in flight inlay.

PRS SE Zach Myers Semi-hollow Electric Guitar Features:
  • Zach Myers signature PRS
  • Mahogany body, beveled maple top with flame maple veneer
  • Semi-hollow construction with f-hole delivers warm resonance
  • Wide Fat neck with rosewood fingerboard and PRS Bird inlays

You'll love the PRS SE Zach Myers.

Stunning looks, quality and tone

The title says it all. The PRS Zach Myers is a beautiful guitar. The tiger (flame) maple cap on mine looks even better in person than it did on the pictures. The headstock logo on the 2017 is a classy touch. A beautiful guitar is inspiring to play. I love the look of the F hole and being a semi-hollow it's very light. The quality is everything I expected from a Korean PRS. The setup was perfect right out of the box. I like a "medium low" action Not too low, not too high and that how this came. Pickup height was also dial in and needed nothing. I had to intonate 1 string. Nothing else. I cannot find a single flaw or mistake on the guitar. I wish the "famous maker" American guitars were this consistent.Tone is like flavor and this is a tone In really like. It's very much in the same ballpark as a Les paul (obviously) but PRS and Zach Myers have put their own spin on it. The combination of the pickups and the semi-hollow body give it a spacious, airy tone but it still keeps the sharp Les Paul bite, especially when you dig in. Back off the volume and use a light touch and it's all sweet cleans. Roll it on to hit the amp and attack the strings and it responds aggressively. It's better compared to a USA LP than the Epis. Seriously, it's that good.

A bang-for-buck champion

As a self-taught builder, I have been playing my own instruments for the past 8 years exclusively. Due to a recent move, my shop is not yet set and available, and I found myself in need of a dual HB guitar for my current bar band. I have owned Les Pauls, which are great but inconsistent, and a Hamer Archtop, which I absolutely loved but had to sell (much to my dismay) , and are no longer in production. I started looking for an alternative, and on a whim found the Zach Myers and tried it. All the PRS guitars I had tried previously had thin necks, which do not suit me. This neck is excellent- very consistent and I love the satin finish. I finish my necks with oil, no lacquer, so the feel is very familiar and the shape and size are nearly identical to my favorite hand carved neck. Pickups are versatile- not spectacular but very good right out of the box. Responds well to touch and different attacks- I use a good bit of hybrid picking, and it works well for different styles. Tuners are good, fretwork very good, and the nut-though I don't care for the shape- is well cut. Sweep of the pots and usefullness of the tone controls is very good for this price range. Action was incredibly low and buzz-free, though a bit too low for me. After adjustment and swap to .10's, this guitar stays in tune very well and intonates exceptionally. The finish is flawless. A fantastic guitar for the money. Like most guitars, changing the pickups to suit your preference could make this guitar absolutely stellar. This axe is a benchmark for playability- as good as any I have ever owned or made myself. Anyone can nit-pick details, but off the shelf the SE Zach Myers is ready to wail at a very affordable price point.

Day one - very nice guitar

Ok...day one review...so far I'm a fan. Considering the price of this guitar, I'm shocked at the high quality and great tone. Easily on par with instruments two to three times the price. As for Sweetwater's setup/shipping - perfect. This guitar crossed the Pacific and arrived in perfect condition. Intonation and action is spot on.Overall, I'm very impressed.

Best bang for the buck under $700

I snagged one of these off the rack to test an amp that impressed, for more a Les Paul-ish kind of axe. This thing sounded HUGE and meaty. Lots of balls, with a bit more air to it than a solid body. While I have nearly always preferred the solid body axes, this impressed me very much. I still prefer the LTD Skolnick as the best under $1000 axe I've played, but for $700 and under, this simply has no competition in my opinion. I'd even have been happy with the stock pickups and I'm notorious for scrapping them in cheaper guitar for some Duncans or boutique sets. The controls functioned well, the fit and finish were perfect, the axe played well all the way up the neck and had none of the QC issues of many of the Tennessee made guitars that cost 6 times this amount. This will be my next purchase, and had I not stumbled across a killer amp, it would have went home with me already.
