Alder body provides a balanced tone with just enough bite

With its extremely balanced tone, alder is an oft-chosen tonewood for the electric bass guitar. Alder balances low, mid, and high frequencies with a highly resonant thump and sustain. Alder also provides a slightly pronounced upper midrange, enhancing the instrument's clarity. Neither too dark, nor too bright, you'll love the balanced tone of this popular tonewood.

Maple and walnut neck enhances tonal balance

Although composed primarily of maple, this PRS SE Kestrel's five-ply neck also benefits from the addition of maple, which further enhances this bass guitar's tonal balance, while providing additional strength and an enhanced appearance. This bass guitar's neck-through design allows trouble-free access to its entire fingerboard, in addition to providing everlasting, awe-inspiring sustain.

PRS quality in every guitar

All PRS guitars and basses are designed for top-notch performance, right out of the case, and this SE Kestrel bass guitar is no exception. Constructed from top-notch tonewoods and components, PRS instruments carry on a commitment to quality that's been the brand's hallmark since 1985, when Paul Reed Smith himself started hand-building guitars for some of the most elite players in the world.

Neck-thru-Body + Strings-thru-Body = Cosmic Perfection

I don't know about you, but for me, a neck-thru bass eides at or near the top of any list. The same goes for strings-thru-body. Both features provide maximum sustain. Unfortunately, it's rare to encounter both in the same instrument, but the Kestrel delivers in spades. The old joke about "strike a note and I'll be back after lunch" truly applies here. Add an ultra-slim, bound neck and a pair of excellent, full-range single coil pickups, and the result is a bass approaching perfection. I've never said this of a bass before, but my Kestrel practically plays itself. Fortunately, that pleasure is reserved for me.

PRS Kestrel Bass Guitar

A really fantastic bass guitar for the money. High quality throughout and sounds great. My main use is for recording and it is super quiet with a wonderful range of tones. Playability is excellent. Nice gig bag!

Quality workmanship

Excellent electronics. Minor adjustment of string height needed for my preference. Setup was really good out of the box and the frets are dressed reasonably well with no sharp protruding edges. The bass is a beauty to look at. I only wish the PRS logo was on the headstock. Bird inlays look really nice and the side dot inlays make it easy to find your way around the neck on dark stages. The "Old School" sound full of low end mudbucker sound is easy to get with the neck pickup and the tone backed down toward the bass end. The Jazz Bass pop is also easy to dial in using both pickups with the tone control on full treble.

Monster of Tone and Playability

The PRS Kestrel is of such high quality and has the versatility for dialing in just about any tone and sound, I was truly amazed.I run it through it through an Ampeg BA 210 with a 4 X 10 extension cabinet, this combination with this monster of tone Kestrel plugged in has upgraded my sound and enables a clean noise free output I desperately needed being in a band with a two guitar attack and a drummer who hits em hard. Thank you Sweetwater for the great deal on such a wonderful instrument, get one of these, you will not be disappointed absolutely the best tone, sustain and quality in this price range, PRS is known for their workmanship and this Bass is a great example of the PRS commitment to quality. Special thanks to Kevin Samuel at Sweetwater for guiding me through both the Ampeg and PRS Bass Purchases with expertise and advice that is so very important when buying on-line.
