Exceptional components

The combination of a mahogany body and maple top gives the SE Custom 24 a perfect balance of rich midrange and bright snap (and the beautiful flame maple top veneer helps make this instrument a real looker). Add a pair of PRS-designed humbuckers in the bridge and neck positions, and you've got a recipe for thick, sustaining tones. Pull up on the tone pot, and you'll access chiming, bell-like single-coil sounds. And the SE Custom 24's maple neck has a wide-thin carve, making it very fast and playable.

PRS-designed SE 85/15 humbucking pickups

The two humbucking pickups in this SE Custom 24 are Paul Reed Smith-designed SE 85/15s. An update on PRS's original humbuckers, the 85/15s are designed to sound terrific whether used in humbucking or single-coil modes. They offer you plenty of output for driving your amp hard, while sounding clear and detailed when you want. These SE humbucker closely resemble the tones of the U.S.-made versions found in the solidbody electric guitars crafted at PRS's Maryland factory.

PRS quality in every guitar

All Paul Reed Smith guitars are designed for performance, right out of the case - and the SE Custom 24 is no exception. Constructed from high-quality tonewoods and components, PRS instruments carry on a commitment to quality that's been the brand's hallmark since 1985, when Paul Smith began crafting guitars for some of the most elite players in the world. In fact, you'll often see a PRS SE in the touring rigs of the most well-respected PRS artists in the world.

Just Incredible

I want to start this review by giving a big shout out to my sales engineer Alan. Always helpful, flexible and willing to go the extra mile for his customers. In over 30 years of buying guitars, having gone through dozens, this was the first guitar that was literally " ready to go" as soon as I opened the box. Countless times a guitar would arrive with stale old strings, of the wrong gauge, action too high or too low etc... This was perfect. It was butter. And it worked out perfect for me, It arrived Friday morning and I had a gig that night, It sounded amazing, the tonal variations with the coil tap were insane. After playing for 3 and half hours, I wanted to keep going, the guitar felt that good. The photo's on the site do not do this guitar justice, it has to be seen in person. Beautiful color, especially contrasted with the natural color on the back. Overall, I am Very, Very pleased with this purchase and will continue to reach out to Alan for my future purchases.

Amazing, versatile guitar.

I decided to finally start taking guitar seriously and get myself a new guitar to help motivate me to play every day. After a lot of research I settled on the PRS SE Custom 24. The Trampas Green looked the best to me, with the gorgeous green top veneer and natural back, neck and sides. Sweetwater shipped it to me fast and when I got it I was blown away. The neck is so comfortable, the build quality is phenomenal and it sounds amazing. You can get so many tones out of a Custom 24. With the coil taps you can get a very Fender-like twang from the bridge, and of course in hum bucking mode you can get lots of Gibson like tones. I mostly play pretty clean but once in a while I want to play metal and it can do that too. I loved this guitar so much that within the last six months I have bought two more PRS guitars.

Still digging mine

Still digging my SE Custom 24 (this model, green). The 85/15 pickups are just so great, really great rock sound, and the split coil is the most usable i've heard, sounds very acoustic/ strat/bell like to me. I've had so many guitars Schecter, ESP, Fender, PRS, Gibson, etc., and after that "search" this is "the" guitar. It just has the right feel, weight, balance, string weight, sound, just feels like the perfect guitar. Its right in the middle between Fender and Gibson and this 25" scale feels slinky to me (in a good way), easy to play right out of the box. Color and finish is really top notch beyond what you'd expect this price. Really prefer its 24 fret scale even though i've used 22 for years, just easier to get to the lower register. Neck is flat and radius very comfortable. If you have "any" reservation on whether to buy this guitar or not, got get yours today.

Wow, great guitar.

I have been on the fence for a few years with the SE models. The original SE's were Ok, but nothing like the current models. I tried the S2's and although they are Ok for being Korean and assembled in the USA, I was still standoffish about the SE. I have several core model USA PRS guitars. I was looking at a Trampas Green PRS SE Custom 24. The finish was nothing short of a 10 top. I took a chance and bought it. It's a 2017 with Pauls signature which was the deciding point. Well let me tell you, This guitar is built just as good as my 2002 USA CE24. This guitar is rock solid and not some cheap copy like Sterlings JP6 copies, or some of the LTDs. This is a high end guitar. I am going to put locking tuners on it, but it stays remarkably in tune using the trem without them. I would buy the 2017 SEs over the S2s any day of the week. If you are worried about spending the money on this guitar, don't be. YOU WILL LOVE IT!!

Most impressive

OK I've been playing it for about an hour and a half now and I can safely say it's easily right up there in quality with my Luke and my other two EBMM's, my Jem, my EC Artist Series, and the two guitars I had Carvin make for me (and HH2X and a DC800). The pickups sent me into "Rocky Mountain Way" territory immediately. That's what this guitar sounded like to me when I first plugged it in. The Axe was on the stock Funk #49 preset and they (the guitar and the preset) just dovetailed really nicely. Very light. I like that. Superlegerra. Pickups are surprisingly good for Korean copies of PRS 85/15 house pickups. Crisp and clean, like fresh sheets on the bed. No muddiness when stepping into the heavier amp presets. The neck is fantastic. I have smaller hands (no I don't smell like cabbage, I'm not a carnie) and the neck is extremely comfy. Width at the nut to width at the 24th fret is very good for me. If it was an aircraft wing I'd call that the aspect ratio. The 25" scale length is my comfort zone. Sustainy. Really sustainy. The finish is beautiful, flawless near as I can tell. I like it a lot.
