High quality, affordable single cut.
I am a huge Led Zeppelin fan. As a result I felt a strong desire to get a Les Paul style guitar. But I wanted to keep it under $1,000 new. I compared the Epiphones and Gibsons available around the price range, and the SE 245 just seemed to be a better deal. Especially knowing the level of fit and finish that I had experienced on my SE Custom 24.
I absolutely love this guitar. Some people might think it's crazy to have an SE Custom 24 and an SE 245, but they are incredibly different. The different scale length, the thicker mahogany neck vs. the thinner maple one, the different controls, the thicker body on the 245, the different pickups, the wrap around stop tail instead of a tremolo. Everything comes together to just make this a totally different guitar. It's a tremendous pleasure to play.
It has all the advantages that a traditional single cut has; the shorter scale length makes bending easier, the thicker, chunky mahogany neck provides a whole different feel while playing and a totally different tone. Which is also assisted by the pickups. If you're looking for a single cut guitar in this price range I think the 245 is the obvious choice and you won't be disappointed. It's fantastic.
