Built for High-speed Performance

The Charvel Custom Shop was one of the first companies to produce high-quality super S-style electric guitars. And the Charvel San Dimas was the beginning of what continues to be a pinnacle of high-performance solidbody electric guitars. In that vein, the San Dimas Style 1 HH FR boasts features like a compound-radius fretboard and dual Seymour Duncan humbuckers to ensure your playing is effortless and enjoyable. The Pro Mod San Dimas Style 1 HH FR is built to give you the ultimate instrument for highly technical styles.

Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas Style 1 HH FR Electric Guitar at a Glance:
  • The company that started it all
  • Effortless playability
  • More tones than meets the eye
The company that started it all

Originally founded in the 1970s, Charvel began building highly customized versions of many of the electric guitars of the day. Those designs quickly caught on, and most well-known rock guitarists of the '80s were seen slinging one over their shoulder. The San Dimas continues to be one of their most popular designs from those days. And players like Warren DeMartini, Jake E. Lee, and Guthrie Govan are ensuring that these guitars stay well known for years to come.

Effortless playability

The ease of play that the Pro Mod San Dimas Style 1 HH FR offers is what put the company on the map. They were some of the first guitars to offer a compound-radius fretboard that flattens out from 12" to 16" as you move up to the higher frets. The rolled fretboard edges on the hand-rubbed urethane-finished neck feel like a perfectly broken-in guitar right from the factory. And the Floyd Rose FRT-O2000 double-locking tremolo keeps your tuning rock solid while you enjoy maximum pitch control.

More tones than meets the eye

While the Pro Mod San Dimas Style 1 HH FR excels at high-output, high-gain humbucker tones, the 3-way pickup selector and push-pull tone knob deliver six distinct sounds for fitting into most musical situations. Full humbucking and bell-like single-coil tones are both available. A no-load tone pot is completely removed from the signal path when turned all the way up, delivering a full signal from the Seymour Duncan JB and '59 humbuckers. And the classic construction of alder and maple are a great combination for a balanced tone.

Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas Style 1 HH FR Electric Guitar Features:
  • Electric guitar built for fast playing styles
  • Seymour Duncan humbuckers drive your amp hard
  • 6 pickup-switching combinations
  • Compound-radius fretboard
  • Recessed Floyd Rose maintains tuning stability
  • No-load tone pot ensures signal clarity
  • 22 jumbo frets
The Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas Style 1 is the high-speed guitar that started it all.

Shocking!

I've paid lots more for less. I was very shocked at just how nice a guitar this is for the money. It sounds great, it's extremely flexible. It's super stable. The neck on this is not going to move around on you and get you annoyed. The Floyd is super stable. I pull up on this thing all the time and it just DOES NOT go out of tune. Frets are crowned and treated very nicely. Nothing poking out the sides of the neck nice rounded ends. You will not need to change the pickups they are a tried and true combo. I dont think you're going to find something this good anywhere else for the money. It's easily on par with guitars in the 2000-3000 dollar range. No, seriously. And it's alder, not basswood. The color...it is extremely bright. If you have ever seen a road flare red Ibanez, this is even brighter.. You will never get hit by a car carrying this guitar with you. lol it's simply gorgeous in person. An all around excellent rock/metal machine. Everyone should own one. I am so tempted to get a green one too!

Great with a hidden secret!

I have a lot of Guitars, mostly (Eddie type) custom made Frankenstrat's of various kinds, A Kramer 86 Baretta, EVH striped series and an EVH Wolfgang to name a few. Note, all of my guitars Floyd or Trem's are all set to dive down, not floating.I came across the Charvel 2016 Pro-Mod series for 2016 in Sweetwater's latest catalog and I was intrigued, having played a Charvel only once about 3 years ago and I was very impressed way back then. I play a lot of Classic Rock stuff.. anything from the era of Hendrix to Van Halen (a lot of Van Halen).I spent 3 days worth of hours and hours of research trying to choose between the (made in Mexico) So-Cal and the San-Dimas and I liked the San-Dimas for looks more than the So-Cal with its ugly pickguard. You have to go to the official Charvel web site to get the exact specs on the difference in pickups between the two, and I found that the So-Cal's pickups (TB-6's) were just too hot!The San Dimas comes with.... Seymour Duncan Direct Mount JB TB-4 Humbucking Pickup (Bridge)and a Seymour Duncan Direct Mount SH-1N ‘59 Humbucking Pickup (Neck)So, I decided on the 2016 Pro-Mod San Dimas "Rocket Red" color (I may have been the first to purchase one from Sweetwater). The pickup choice was simply better than the So-Cal.The Maple neck is the thin Fender type C neck that I love dearly, the rounded frets are excellent, I doubt I will ever need to file these down during changing seasons of weather. The recessed Floyd Rose is beautiful to play with and use. The Charvel tuners are smooth and awesome too!The push-pull volume knob has been moved further away finally and the tone knob is off when on 10, but engaged from 9 down to 1.. (nice touch). As always with a new guitar when playing through my amp for the first time, I use my #1 guitar which is my custom made exact replica of Eddie's Frankenstrat. And then swap it out immediately for the new guitar I purchased to see and hear differences. The Alder body gives the San Dimas more of a mid-tone than most with nice bottom end and smooth high end tone (More high end tone than Basswood body and less high end than Maple body). So this guitar sits right in the middle.I played it for about 2 hours, various rock tunes, solo's and tested a lot of harmonics and squeals. I had Sweetwater set the Floyd perfectly level, intonation set a step down to Eb using 9 gauge Ernie Ball M-Steel strings. The amount of different sounds (using the push-pull volume and 3 way switch) whether in phase or out of phase are amazing on this guitar. Add that to using the tone control and the varying sound possibilities are endless. Perfect for someone like myself who plays a lot of Classic Rock covers by various bands with my band. Its fast, with low action, so you can really shred on this thing.I was very nervous about the Floating Trem having not played one before but.. it stays in tune like a dream and palm muting is just as good as a set Trem is. The pickups are excellent, nice rock high gain tone from these! ...I can finally do those 'flutters' with the Floyd set this way now.I took the back plate off to look at the Trem Set up (3 springs), It is possible this could be worth upgrading with a Floyd Big Brass 37mm block. Not that it has enough sustain already, but all my guitars have the Brass Block installed, its just my preference. Volume and Tone controls are set tightly and not loose, I liked that too.And now for the "hidden secret" not advertised anywhere!!... This has a 3 way pickup switch, if you stick the switch in between the neck and middle position or bridge and middle position, it cuts off the sound!.. VOILA!!.. it can be used as a KILL SWITCH!!.. for me this was an HUGE ADDED BOUNS!!Overall, fast playing, great Floyd and pickup set up, awesome neck, great tone and perfect for Classic Rock or Heavy Metal rhythm and solo playing. Charvel did an awesome job, don't be put off with the 'Made In Mexico' thing.. so is the EVH striped series and these Charvel guitars beat the EVH guitars by a long shot!.. So much tonal variation on these new Charvel models!Last and not least my long time Sweetwater tec and sales guy.. Ed Nystrom.. (a musician himself) he's an awesome guy!!.. he knows my needs and tastes and never lets me down. Thanks!!
