Performed and produced by two modern rock masters
If you love rock and metal, then Randy Staub is a name you very well might recognize. With mixing credits of Metallica's "Black Album", Avril Lavigne's "Under My Skin", and Nickelback's "Silver Side Up", just to name a few of his 300-some productions, this engineering guru has set the pace for modern rock in many important ways. Speaking of Nickelback, Toontrack's The Rock Warehouse SDX features the drum stylings of none other than ex-Nickelback drummer Ryan Vikedal, whose drumming makes the included MIDI library an authoritative collection of rock grooves and riffs if there ever was one.
Recorded in one of the world's top studios with the finest gear
Located in Vancouver's Gastown, Studio 2 in Bryan Adams's The Warehouse Studio was the perfect setting to track The Rock Warehouse SDX. A cavernous 32' x 58' live room with a 26'-high ceiling makes provides all the ambient sound and spacial dimension you could ask for. At the same time, Staub placed the drums in one of the studio's larger iso rooms (with the doors open), so that the close mics would be nice and dry, providing you with total control over your ambience. Like all Toontrack drum expansions, The Rock Warehouse SDX was recorded with top-shelf mics, but these sounds feature the added bonus of being tracked through one of the three existing Neve A6630 consoles built specifically for Sir George Martin at AIR Studios back in 1979. Suffice it to say, you'll be hard press to find better drum sounds anywhere.
