The best drum library by far for mostly anything
The problem I have with this library is it honestly is so much better than every other toontrack SDX and drum library I have used. I love my Abbey Road 60s and vintage drums (Native Instruments) but they are often very limiting because they have such a specific vintage sound. The Custom & Vintage SDX is good but it lacks a decent room sound - still one of my favorites though. I actually think between this library, the C&V SDX and the Claustrophobic EZX for tighter sounds, I have my favorite drum sounds and I don't feel I need more. This one is the best though. The kick drums are better than anything I have used by far - and I think this is in part thanks to the Kick room microphone they recorded. I definitely can see some people thinking it is very folk oriented but frankly this is how I want my drums to sound 90% of the time if I'm not going to heavily process them. They just sound natural and full. The room sounds amazing. Clearly they used fantastic microphone technique - and this is especially evident with the kick mic choices. The other kick drums in SDX packs sound incredibly flat compared to those in this library. The massive sounding 28" ludwig 'kick' is so useful for orchestral or cinematic stuff actually. If you want reverb go ahead and add it on but what really is lacking in most libraries is a good tighter room sound that is very natural - that is where this library really succeeds. I do like the Allaire library (from NYVol2) but the kick drums are too clicky and it's so much harder to take away room sound rather than add reverb on top. For some rock the Allaire samples are great though. In the end this is my favorite library for drums by far. If they made more either at Avast! or with the same tastes in mind I would surely buy it right away.
