PRS S2 Vela Electric Guitar - Antique White Gloss Reviews
PRS proudly introduces their new S2 Vela solidbody electric guitar. Maintaining the high-level of workmanship the company is known for, PRS has changed their recipe for the new vintage-inspired Vela. Featuring a Starla treble humbucking pickup with coil-tap and a new Type-D single-coil bass pickup, the S2 Vela aims to rock, cut, and jangle with the best of them. PRS also added a new plate-style bridge with two intonation-compensated brass saddles, delivering the classic tone and visual appeal that Sweetwater guitarists love.

Just what I was looking for
I've been looking at offset body six string guitars for about a year now when I discovered this unique and highly enjoyable instrument. I have never owned a PRS and honestly wasn't the biggest fan of their instruments until I found Vela. I got the antique white model and its BEYOND beautiful. I own and have owned many guitars at around the 1500 price point. What sold me was that VELA is MADE IN AMERICA!!
The craftsmanship is second to none. The Starla pickup is very distinctive and sounds incredible with its voicing and options, the model D in the neck is nice and warm. Admittedly the shorter scale length and bridge design took a few hours to make sense to me. I generally play baritone seven string instruments. Yet when it clicked, I fell hard in love with this axe.
If you are looking for something different that pays homage to guitars from the 50s, with modern appointments, this is one I would absolutely check out!
Of course it also goes without saying that you should order from Sweetwater as they really care about their customers!
WOW - what have you been missing?
Was NOT a PRS Fan (didn't like flamey gaudy tops & birds). Have owned a ton of modern & vintage guitars including: Custom Shop Strats, LP Std., LP Custom, Nash 63' Strat, Nash 52 Tele, Gretsch Hollow-body, Jazzmasters, etc. Owned/sold a PRS Custom 24 S2 because just couldn't connect with it.
Being a Mayer fan, took a leap of faith & bought a Silver Sky - very impressed and it opened my mind to reconsider my anti-PRS mindset.
Recently saw the Vela (never knew Vela existed) & bought it... WOW! What have I been missing? The Vela is probably my favorite guitar right now. Light, excellent geometry, plays perfectly & effortlessly, and tone is perfect (warm single coil tones and clean clear humbucker).
Never thought I would say this, but I now own 2 PRS guitars & considering selling a few of my old standbys. I know guitar love is fickle but Vela & Silver Sky do everything my other guitars do - but better.
Totally didn't expect to be playing PRS but ... ?
Just buy one already!
I recently picked up an antique white PRS S2 Vela [with birds] as my first Paul Reed Smith guitar. It is all you would expect from a USA made Paul Reed Smith: Top tier build quality, super solid hardware, a versatile pallet of sounds, and fantastic tuning stability. I love these mini locking tuners and need to find more for some of my other guitars.
While I have spent most of my decades of guitar playing using guitars with a 25 1/2" scale length, the transition to the Vela's shorter scale turned out to be a non issue. The Vela simply feels like a more compact Stratocaster.
In all honesty, if you are even considering this guitar, find one and try it. If you have a PRS guitar, you need to add one of these to your collection.
Sweet rounded tones
The Vela has some sexy curves on it. The neck pickup has a beautiful voice.
Sounds good, clean or crunchy. Smooth.
Hey it's a PRS, nuff said!
