Gretsch Drums Hammered Black Steel 5 x 14-inch Snare Drum - Black Nickel Reviews

5" x 14" Steel Snare Drum with 1.2mm Hammered Shell and Die-cast Hoops

If sensitivity is what you're after, the 5" x 14" Gretsch Full Range steel snare drum delivers in spades. The 1.2mm steel shell exhibits a focused, dry, complex tone that takes different tuning ranges like a champ. A pair of die-cast metal hoops delivers not just an immediate tone, but also cutting rimshots and cross-sticks that carry straight to the back row. The Gretsch Full Range hammered steel snare drum is handsome, versatile, and sensitive to dynamic playing, which also makes it a solid option for studio work.

hammered by the sound and look

By alan craker from Michigan on February 3, 2019 Music Background: classic rock , self taught and 71, still going strong.

This snare has the best sound, played it with the band on Sat. The bass player (Ted) new right away it was new and said it was great. The moment I first hit the snare I knew I made the right choice. You can't go wrong with Gretsch, the black hammered snare is the best.

Very Happy.......

By Rick A Erickson from Nevada on August 19, 2020 Music Background: Ham an' eggs.

After extensive research, I bought the 14 X 5 for my present (Pearl) kit. I prefer the sound of steel (snare drum) and this drum does not disappoint. The range of sound this snare is capable of, is huge. Right out of the box, this snare will tune to your liking with that extra crack you get only from steel. You can still get phat and porky, but my preference is tight and snappy. Stops just short of a 13 inch (or smaller) piccolo, but makes it up with power and presence. I replaced the snares with a Rogers, dyna-sonic snare rail and needed the dyna-sonic hoop to make it work, but the focused, flawless, resulting snare sizzle, made it all worth it! The die-cast hoops, are upfront and in your face, I love it.
