    Pretty Much Done it all...

REDNET 3 works like a charm...

Bad taste in my mouth from my last digital interface. But REDNET 3 had a little button to reconfigure and assign the drivers. AND IT DID!!! That was worth the entire cost!

    Bye-Bye long latency

Dante is a great platform. I do mainly live tracking with a mobile setup, but I also have a studio.
The main thing that started me looking into Dante was redundancy for my existing mobile setup (48 channels: Lucid 88192 A/D->Lynx PCI AES 16e->DAW). I put the Lynx PCI setup permanently into the studio and now for mobile duties come out of my converters with ADAT into the Rednet 3's and then Ethernet to the gigabit switch and then to the Dante PCI->DAW. This allows me to run another Ethernet cable from the gigabit switch to a JoeCo Dante recorder. Now I have 2 recordings happening simultaneously--the DAW and the JoeCo. If one fails, the other keeps going.
Another plus is now when I move my gear from the road into the studio, the hookup is several DB-25 connectors and an ethernet cable to the back of the racks. No more AES snakes to the DAW mess.
Oh, and the latency with the Dante PCI is less than 4ms.

    Good after a year

Rednet 3 has been working fine for me in my studio. I’ve mostly used it for AES to Dante with SRC conversion, but I have used ADAT on occasion. Eventually I will replace it with their 16-channel AES interface, and move the R3 to my automixer test bench where a raft of Dugans have ADAT i/o.

BTW the R3 has 8 ADAT ports, but it only does 32 channels. The double ports are used for high sample rates. At low rates the outputs 5-8 mirror inputs 1-4, a handy ADAT splitter.

I’m sorry that Dante doesn’t allow looping back to the same device—it could be an ADAT patch bay.

I use Dante Virtual Soundcard on the computer.

    Plug and Play

Dante network connections for everything ADAT. The SRC on all AES inputs was very useful. Only reservation was the size, could be one rack unit.
