DeClipper in iZotope RX 2 is nothing short of amazing
I was asked to do what I could to save the recording of a new professional wind ensemble in the SF Bay Area, which had been recorded by student help at San Francisco State University, with too much gain.
The audio was rather clipped. It affected any passage greater than
mezzo forte and sounded obviously distorted for many seconds at a time.
I tired using the manual sound repair tools in SonicStudios soundBlade
app (which has done many other kinds of truly wonderful frestorations
and is a staple in the forensic audio community) without any success
in this situation.
I also had access to Adobe audition, which did a pretty good job
in very short order, but still left audible residue in the most damaged
But that was totally eclipsed by the job that RX 2 did, which completely repaired the audio and left no tell-tale trace that there had ever been
a problem at all.
"Blown Away" is not overstating my reactions (or that of the conductor) to the results!
