Round Shoulder style

Descending from Gibson's large HG Hawaiian guitar in 1929, and the original Jumbo, introduced in 1934, Round Shoulder Dreadnoughts are steeped in Gibson tradition and lauded for their pure, rich tones and impressive volume. With smooth lines and a curvaceous shape, Round Shoulder style guitars invite a close relationship with their respective guitarists. Their body shape makes these guitars easier to hold and more comfortable to wrap your arms around.

Mahogany bodied acoustics are where it's at for recording

When it comes to recording flat-picked acoustic guitars, professional recording engineers prefer instruments with a mahogany back and sides, rather than rosewood. If that surprises you, understand that it has to do with the preponderance of low end inherent in rosewood-bodied guitars (that must dealt with) versus the perfection with which a properly-recorded mahogany-bodied acoustic sits within a track. The Gibson Acoustic J-35 is a cannon: very loud but superbly balanced. It's a great choice for tracking in a thick mix, yet it sounds rich and full-bodied on its own. Just aim a small-diaphragm condenser mic at the 12th fret and you're good-to-go. Record the Baggs Element pickup output to another track and you've got beaucoup mix options.

The Gibson Acoustic J-35 comes with LR Baggs's popular VTC acoustic pickup system, a popular choice among Sweetwater's acoustic guitarists. This system features a low-profile under-saddle transducer that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Its sleek and effective design removes unnecessary internal components to enhance the coupling between the pickup and the guitar and improve the sensitivity of the transducer for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. Combined with an onboard preamplifier with an unobtrusive and removable volume control, mounted just inside the soundhole, the VTC gives your Gibson Acoustic J-35 the amplification you need, with zero compromises for tone or convenience.

Gibson Acoustic J-35 Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:
  • A modern round-shoulder flat-top
  • Solid Sitka spruce top offers great projection and tone
  • Solid mahogany back and sides offer warm, round sound
  • LR Baggs VTC electronics transfer every nuance of your tone to your PA or amp

Excellent Guitar

This is a unique instrument. I have been playing for over 25 years and regularly performing for most of that time. I have made the most out of lower priced instruments but decided it was time for an investment. With the help of a great Sweetwater rep, my choice was the J-35. I un-boxed it and went right to a 3 hour gig. This guitar has that inspiration factor both in how it plays and how it sounds. I found myself playing songs differently - different rhythms, fills etc.I found myself interacting with the instrument differently because of the ease of play and beautiful sound. I always thought people were full of it when they said they could hear the wood but I am a believer as this has a Mahogany sound. It is extremely well balanced. I would describe it as thick, rich, fat, chunky but still beautiful.

Buy this guitar !!

Incredible build quality! Strings were about 5.5 mm from fretboard at last fret. I loosened strings, removed and sanded about 3mm off bottom of saddle. Made the guitar play way so much easier. Very loud without the booming bass, which is what I wanted and why I chose a guitar with mahogany back and sides. Still can't get over the quality of construction. As perfect as you can get. And, this thing is just plain fun to pick up and play. Oh, did I mention the quality of construction . . . . Sweetwater was great to deal with and package arrived in perfect shape.

Excellent Quality and Tone

I'm somewhat of a new guitar player. I played my dad's vintage Takamine for a while, which wasn't s bad guitar, but I wanted to step up to the next level. I'm mainly into recording, so I wanted something that would do that well. After having knocked around in shops and listened to countless videos, I set my sights on the J-35.Glad I did! It's got a nice bass, but not at the point of being boomy. Just enough to where it's balanced well, but you can EQ some in if you need a little more dialed in. The mid-range isn't abrasive, and it's got a warm high-end—slightly recessed to where it's got a nice, natural sound.Sounds almost identical to its more expensive brother, the J-45. Sweetwater is a pleasure to deal with, and I highly recommend this guitar and Sweetwater!

Sweet

This guitar is a Gibson no doubt! Easy to play and the sound it has will be hard to beat. It's got that real good mahogony sound! Good on the high end and good on the low end. Stays in tune all the way down the neck. Finger picking is easy on the mahogany neck which you can just wrap your hand around and play. I love it. The old fashion tuners set it off. The natural finish is awsome. It has a true very satisfying tone, so just set back and let it rip tator chip!!!
