8-string Built for Performance
The Ibanez RGIM8MH Multi-scale 8-string's distinctive fretboard and compensated pickup and hardware configuration give you outstanding playing comfort and great intonation all the way up the neck. The mahogany body's warm tone also serves up plenty of cut and sustain. And the RGIM8MH's Mono-rail bridge lets each string vibrate independently, while a pair of active EMG 909 humbuckers delivers the amp-punishing punch you demand. A lot of guitars can play metal, but the Ibanez Iron Label RGIM8MH was born for it.
Designed for metal
When Ibanez introduced their Iron Label series of electric guitars, it was clear they were heavy metal guitars through and through. The Iron Label RGIM8MH carries on that tradition, and it adds a multi-scale fret design for incredible down-tuned punch while keeping the higher strings feeling familiar and sounding clear. And active EMG 909 humbucking pickups will push your amp into tight, aggressive distortion. Ibanez is also famous for their fast Wizard necks, such as the Nitro Wizard-8 contour on a 5-piece maple/bubinga construction found on the RGIM8MH.
Multi-scale frets provide better comfort, tension, and tone
Multi-scale frets are an exciting trend in guitar design aimed at down-tuned and technical playing. You get a longer scale length on the bass side of the instrument and a shorter scale on the treble side. Not only does this offer you better intonation across all seven strings, but the higher tension on the low strings adds muscle and punch to your tone. And the higher strings have a familiar scale length for great single-string performance. While getting used to them may seem intimidating, Sweetwater guitarists have found that it's a very natural transition.
Searing active EMG tone
EMG pickups are renowned for high-output, active humbucking pickups. Players such as Kerry King, Zakk Wylde, James Hetfield, and Jim Root have been using them to drive their tone for decades. Onboard your Iron Label RGIM8MH, you'll find a set of EMG's fat-sounding 909 humbuckers. Ibanez chose 9-string pickups for this 8-string to compensate for their offset installation. Far more than high-output pickups, these 909s also give you a very clear and articulate clean tone with a balanced response, which is great for cutting through the mix.
