Exotic wood complement

The first thing that will strike you about the Ibanez RGDIX is the concert of exotic woods. The body is made from layered ash, beautifully adorned with a rosewood top. Rosewood also caps the RGDIX's headstock. The 3-piece neck is made of maple and bubinga for their stability and clear tonal properties. The fretboard is a stunning piece of birdseye maple. These woods add up to a uniquely gorgeous Ibanez RG that still carries the line's aggressive tones.

Ready to rumble

Hiding in the eye-candy construction is the tone of a heavy metal guitar. The RGDIX comes from the factory tuned a full step down for maximum tonal growl. The guitar boasts a 26.5" scale length to optimize string tension, sustain, and tuning stability when playing in this lowered tuning. A pair of DiMarzio's Fusion Edge passive humbuckers deliver the clear and punchy tone guitarists have come to rely on from Ibanez. And the Nitro Wizard neck plays incredibly fast and comfortably.

Fantastic guitar!

First of all, I'd like to say that Sweetwater did me a solid on this guitar. I called and inquired about payment plans and they allowed me to do 5 monthly payments with no interest, so that really helped me out in getting this. They have the best customer service of any company ever (and I deal with a lot through my work) On to the guitar! My first thought when unboxing it was just how beautiful the guitar is. The craftsmanship is on par with guitars at a much higher price point. It is gorgeous! The finish is nice and natural and really lets the wood breathe. It feels fantastic to the touch. The pickups sound fantastic. I have some DiMarzio X2Ns in my PGM301 and the crunch on these pups is much stronger. They sound great for metal and even have a pretty nice clean tone. The volume control knob doesn't do a lot to them, though, so don't expect to roll off and reduce the gain down to a nice clean sound. It plays absolutely wonderfully. I have pretty large hands, so the 26.5 scale length is fantastic for me. It can get a little stretchy down low, but when I'm shredding on the upper frets I find it so much easier to play quickly and accurately. It did develop some fret buzz after a month or so, but I attribute that to the change in climate (shipped from Kentucky to high mountains in Colorado), so with a nice setup it should be back to perfect condition. The lack of fret markers on the fretboard is something I've always wanted, as I love the aesthetic, but it can make playing on the upper frets a bit confusing if you're looking from a weird angle. I've had plenty of times I've flat out hit the wrong note. There are markers on the side, but they don't always line up like your mind perceives, especially when playing fast. All that aside I think this is a fantastic guitar and a brilliant move on Ibanez's part to appeal to the "meat and potatoes" crowd like me who don't care about floating trems, funky shapes, or 15-way selectors with coil tap combos that make navigating the guitar a nightmare. I highly recommend this guitar to a metal/rock enthusiast who loves chunky riffs and shredding solos.
