Prestige Series = Premium Playability and Tonal Range

Primed for rock and metal, the Ibanez RG655 RG Prestige solidbody electric guitar sets a great foundation for technical players. The five-piece Super Wizard HP is a thin, fast neck, and feels amazingly smooth thanks to the Prestige fret-edge treatment on its 24 jumbo frets. For expressive dives and bends, the RG655's Edge tremolo bridge delivers a fast and snappy response along with outstanding tuning stability and intonation. Factor in a combination of single-coil and humbucking pickups from DiMarzio, and you've got everything you need for commanding performances with the Ibanez RG655 RG Prestige.

Super Wizard HP neck plays fast and smooth

The RG655's super-fast Super Wizard HP neck lets you execute lightning-fast runs, arpeggios, and hammer-ons with silken ease, while still providing enough substance for comfortable chording. The feel of this neck is greatly enhanced by the Prestige fret-edge treatment, an extra step Ibanez takes to ensure maximum playing comfort and long-term playability. The process essentially rounds the fret ends much more precisely than is possible by hand filing. The RG655 will feel like its neck has been lovingly played for years, right out of the factory case.

Three DiMarzio pickups cover an expansive sonic range

There's no denying the massive range of tone you can get out of an H/S/H configuration, and with the Ibanez Prestige RG655's combo of DiMarzio pickups, you're in a whole new league altogether. First, there's the DiMarzio Tone Zone at the bridge, a hot humbucker with a super-wide dynamic range. It's a perfect complement to the RG655's DiMarzio Air Norton at the neck, which is deep, warm, and remarkably clean. And smack in the middle, you've got a DiMarzio True Velvet single-coil that's clean, bright, and sweet all the way up the neck — perfect for soloing. The guitarists here at Sweetwater love this ultra-flexible pickup combination.

Top-of-the-line RG Prestige series

Ibanez's RG Prestige series is filled with top instruments — all featuring the famous RG body style, with high-quality components through and through. With the RG655, you get a well-balanced, resonant basswood body plus a lightning-fast Super Wizard HP neck, dressed with the Prestige fret-edge treatment. Factor in DiMarzio pickups (a popular after-market upgrade for many players), and the acclaimed Edge tremolo, and it's clear the RG655 is a premium instrument for serious players.

Ibanez RG655 RG Prestige 6-string Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Distinctively sculpted, resonant, and beautifully balanced basswood RG body
  • Lightning-fast Super Wizard HP Prestige neck

Love this guitar

When I found myself asked to join a new band, I wound up in the market for a new guitar. The usual guitar I typically play is the Giger edition from 2008 and since the new band would be tuning differently, I didn't feel like dealing with re-tuning a Floyd Rose bridge whenever I needed to play with the new band. I was expecting a few upgrades to my older Giger edition Prestige, but I was really pleased with the changes they've made to this guitar... granted it can't match the aesthetic of the carved Giger, but in all the other ways I think this new Prestige edition exceeds my expectations. When I read another reviewer state the con of the tone being dark with the Tone Zones, I was even more sold on my purchase. I'm primarily playing Black/Death Metal in this project so that is exactly the kind of tone I'm looking for. The new Prestige with these pick-ups certainly delivers that, it felt like we were a whole new band when I added this guitar into the mix! The other major difference against my earlier Prestige model is the thinness of the neck. The other guitarist I work with doesn't like it, because it's way too thin for him, but I really love it. It makes fret work so much faster and it's quite a difference switching between the two guitars and I kind of wish my Giger neck had the same specs. I think Ibanez has hit it's limit on thin for me though, if they tried to shave their neck's down any more than this I would probably find it a hindrance to play, but with this edition, I think it's perfect. I love everything about this guitar and I really can't wait to record our next album with it. I've recorded albums with my earlier Prestige, so I expect this one to perform similarly. In concert I think this Prestige works wonderfully, I get no electronic noise between amplifier and the guitar. In fact, I ended up no longer needing to use a Noise Gate live, because there was no feedback between my amp and guitar. I was really surprised at that, but I won't complain at all.

Great Guitar

Thanks to Devin Cunningham for his help. Great recommendation! This guitar has the playability and tone I was hoping for and is just fun to play! Very versatile with great chord and solo note sounds. Thanks again to Devin and Sweetwater.
