    This + Firmware = Goodness

So I debated on this controller for a while and recently bought it. I heard a couple people say the midi notes got stuck sometimes. I also heard a firmware update fixed it. Well now I know for myself. The update does its magic. :) For the price, I don't think a better controller exists.

    Great Value and Features

I purchased the Alesis QX49 keyboard controller because out of so many USB controllers, this one has a dedicated MIDI out plug. Not having a dedicated MIDI out can be a problem if you want to control other keyboards or use a sound system like SCOPE 5.1 with dedicated MIDI jacks which does not see the USB MIDI I/O. The board maps nicely to whichever DAW you run so you get the full use of all the sliders, knobs and buttons. The zone feature is a plus because you can easily map multiple layers and splits directly on the controller with a couple of key presses. Some players may not like the somewhat resistive feel of the keyboard compared to most synth type boards but as a piano player I actually like it better because of the resistance which does not in any way affect the velocity sensitivity of the board and is better for my chops! If you are used to softer keyboards you might want to try one out in person first. Overall, this keyboard worked out very well for me as I got two MIDI outs, one dedicated 5 pin DIN and another 5 pin DIN from the USB (kind of like a free USB MIDI out interface!) which I put to immediate and welcome use. The sliders, knobs, velocity sensitive pads and transport controls all work as expected via MIDI and USB with no head scratching. The free download of Ableton Live Lite (with full QX49 mapping support) is a plus and AIR Ignite is a fun DAW complete with effects and VSTs that is intriguing in approach and great fun for newbies and the kids to play around with and get quick and satisfying results. I purchased this as a demo unit from Sweetwater and thereby saved even more on the already low price. The keyboard arrived in it's original packaging and for all practical purposes was brand spanking new. Not even a fingerprint. With Sweetwater's two-year warranty and tech support this was an unheard of deal. While I would have qualms by demos from other dealers I have no such issue here. Applying the 1.05 firmware patch was as simple as downloading the files and dragging it over the install program. Done. Having had and use many controllers from Roland, Edirol, M-Audio and Alesis I can safely say there is simply no better MIDI controller keyboard than the Alesis QX49 at this price point with a dedicated MIDI out and full set of on board controls.

    Great Controller

Exactly what I was looking for. USB capable, 9V power jack, works great plugged into the irig and with iOS apps as well as directly with computer via USB. Great purchase. And of course as always the sweetwater buying experience was 5 star and unrivaled.

    Great keyboard and controller

I do alot of remixing music artist's songs so I purchased this keyboard-controller months ago basically for the controllable "sliders and knobs" as I have multiple keyboards already. I have been very happy with it so far and I haven't found any issues with it at all including no foot peddle issues that some have mentioned having problems with. I use several daw's but my main one used is Sonar x3 Producer. It works with that daw flawlessly and I don't see myself having to buy another keyboard for a long time since I purchased this one. Alesis has always been a great company and they stand by their products. I would recommend to anyone looking for a keyboard-controller at a great price to give this one a try. You will not go wrong!

    seves the purpose

I bought this to midi into a Micro-Korg for a full size keyboard. Being surrounded by keyboards in my set-up I don't want to have to lok at my hands constantly. The mico keys required me to do that . I would like a little more weight as it moves around a little, but overall it't a great value and would purchase ot again. Thanks to Ray whose help is always a value and he takes the time to fully answer and explain any questions I have. Sweetwater gets my buisiness from now on.

    Great value

A good desktop controller with enough features for me to provide some hardware controls for my DAWs. Out of the box, a spring was disengaged from one of the keys. I popped the cover & hooked it back up. Probably voided the warranty, but for what I paid for it (Gearfest special) it wasn't worth everybody's time and expense for shipping, etc. when I had it fixed & put back together in 10 minutes.
I've been using a 25 key for notation software input, nice to have the extra full sized keys in a lightweight unit. Value for the sale price I paid is excellent.

A Lot Of Bang For The Buck!!!

Here's a 49 key Midi controller that is reasonably priced and performs very well. How wrong can you go for $160.00? Yes, you've probably seen YouTube videos or negative feedback about this unit, but I want to tell you there are issues with the sustain pedal...but, it all comes down to the type of pedal you're using with it. If it's a 1/4 inch tip-sleeve jack on the pedal, it will work. If it's a 1/4 inch tip-ring-sleeve jack, it will sustain everything. The reason for that is, it doesn't work with sustain/damper combo pedals...it will work with just a sustain pedal. The only real criticisms I can give would be (1) the instructions you get with the unit are poor at best! However, after sitting down for a while and figuring everything out, it's pretty simple. And, I plan on putting a YouTube instructional video together to help everyone who purchased one, becasue this thing really rocks! And, (2) the keys could be a little more sturdy... but hey...it's only $160.00!!! I would recommend anyone who uses the sounds in their recording software to get one!
