$ mixer as a benchmark

By Fred Hoffner from AZ on December 15, 2023 Music Background: Working musician

I'm using this as a sub-mixer to replace the Bose t4s. It's much cleaner than the Bose. The Bose has the perfect form factor but the aux out are not near as clean as this. I use this for solo stuff too. I was not happy with the usb feeding the main but there is a trick of routing it to the control room the using patch cables to rout the controller room out to a stereo channel for full channel strip control (see pic).
I've had this for a long time and didn't realize just how great this thing is. Clean!! and pretty versatile.

Great Mixer!

I was looking for a affordable but yet nice mixer that would last me a while especially as I grow my gear and set up rig. This mixer gave me everything I needed and space to grow!

I've been using this mixer for 3ish weeks and I really like it! I like to make music at home or in a live setting and it accomplishes all of that. With 6 individual channel strips (4 mono, 2 stereo) I have plenty of room to plug in my keyboards, drums (electric), guitars and microphones!

The affects and preamps are pretty good for what you pay for! They do have a separate AUX knob on every channel that is different than the routed FX knob! I love this because I don't have to lose the opportunity of having a monitor send and still using affects on every channel!

I did find the routing for headphones to be a little different. Because there are different options to where you are sending audio on little buttons instead of faders. I was able to figure it out though and I still enjoy using headphones!

One thing I was very sad was the multi tracking function. It is a 2in x 2out which means you can only record 2 channels at the same time to a DAW or computer.

Overall I really enjoy this mixer and I'm excited to keep using it daily!

I got this mixer because I like having compressors and effects built in. So far so good.
The sweetwater staff is always very helpfull.

It sounds good, till it stops working

By Aaron Randall from YUKON, OK on October 5, 2022

Purchased 04/04/2021 and 02/10/2022 it no longer works.
The connection to the computer dropped the master volume level of the unit significantly
Seems like each track started having it's own issues, volume, hiss, etc.

I only used it in the studio and not at live gigs. I don't think I would take one to a live gig

Impulse Buy glad I did

Is it the Xenyx pre-amps? I don't know but everything sounds a lot better through a Behringer mixer IMO. Maybe it's because I used the Behringer XENYX Q1202USB for 10 years before a bit of rain fried it, and I just know the board? I use a Bose Tonematch T8s for my band. It's ok. But on the Bose you really have to work the mic. Get right up to it. If you need to quickly change a setting, say eq or reverb...You have to dial it up. There is nothing like moving a fader, or tuning a knob. You can look at a board like this and dial things in quickly. I use it primarily for solo outdoor gigs, and smaller indoor spaces where the room is nice. There is no EQ on the main channel so it makes it harder to dial in the sound for responsive or really dead rooms where you might want to cut the lows and highs on the mains. You have the channel EQ's which will get you there sort of. I am also using Bose L1 speakers, typically set up behind me. I'll never use the USB Mic thing, probably so I can't speak to that. The compressors are great, However I think this mixer works well. I was worried about noise, because I have a Behringer XENYX X1222USB that was my bands back up mixer. It's unbelievably noisy, unusable really. This is quiet as a lamb, and I can easily get the desired sound for my guitars and vocals. The only complaint is the VU meters don't read the signal correctly. This was the case on my X1222 as well, and I thought it was a defect. I can only get a good read on it while doing the gain stage PFL level set. When everything is live just the first light lights up when I am playing anything, even though the level set showed it hitting 0. Looking around the inter webs it seems this is a common design for these mixers, but maybe I'm wrong, and doing something wrong...I don't think so though, because I am getting sound.

Nice in theory

By Rewi Bracey from CA on February 19, 2020

On paper this mixer looks great - and if all functions were working correctly then I'd give it a 4/5. The onboard effects are great, especially the echo/reverb combo. Super smooth.

Cons: After hours of time, this mixer still won't play the game and allow recording the USB signal on my Macbook. Still haven't found a solution and assuming it's a hardware fault.

The booth monitor/Headphone volume dial is linked, and designed as a sub-feed of the primary output (which ever you select). For this reason, it requires multiple button pushes and reconfiguration to route audio exclusively to the headphones and not the speakers. I play music late at night and often don't want any output from the speakers, while still hearing the full mix in headphones.

Additionally, this dial is very sensitive at low volumes and cuts out one of the channels intermittently when I have it turned down too low.

Disclaimer - I bought their shop demo model - so maybe it's had a harder life than I expected. Will return...

Great Board

By Shawn Hamdorf from MN on February 19, 2020

The first use was in 20 degree weather outside for a fishing tourney. The compression on the vocal for the announcer really helped in comparison to years past. Worked well with hooking up a boom box also for airing music. Overall the ease of use and quality really made the job easy. If you want a smaller type board with all the whistles and bells, we'd suggest this one.

Super Clean/Quiet Mixer with great FX

By JW from Nashville, TN on August 19, 2019

I have used many Behringer mixers over the years. They are priced right, and good quality at their price point. I still prefer my Soundcraft for more important projects, but that is a different class of console. The QX1204USB right out of the box was virtually silent at unity. I admit I had to do a little research to get used to the new effects processor's interface. When I first tried to set a nice vocal reverb, I was freaking out a bit because it was just awful. Turns out I needed to school myself for an hour and finally settled on CONCERT HALL 1, with parameter 1 set to a 1.5 second decay and parameter 2 set to CHORUS level 5. After setting the FX send and returns to 12 o'clock and the channel FX to mid level, the result was pure butter. Not quite as smooth as Lexicon, but beautiful for FOH vocals and/karaoke, etc... The compressor seems very workable. Overall, I am very happy with the sound quality. Greatly exceeds my expectations. This will be replacing my Behringer X1222USB that gave me a solid two years of service before getting a little noise on 2 of the channels. Buy this mixer. You will love it.

QX1204usb

By Tracy McClellan on September 1, 2018 Music Background: amature at it for years. Folks at the nursing home seem to enjoy and ask me to play often.

I haven't been able to spend a lot of time yet with this mixer, which is the only reason for the 4.5. Everything so far is fairly straight forward and easy to operate. I am glad I picked the unit with effects. I have found there to be some very useful effects for vocals, although I haven't went through everything yet, though I might use some of the effects for guitar as well. It is nice to single each thing out for setup, without effecting everything you hook up to it. That really makes it easy for me. I hope to use this mixer as an interface as well, but have not tried that yet. I may be giving my sweetwater tech a call on this because I have never done it before, and I know they love to be able to help their customers. Yes, I would recommend this product.

Nice for the $$

By Sweetwater Customer on January 2, 2018

Used it in a live situation , and it worked really well , except for a few factors: 1. yes, it' a bit noisy as it stated in some other reviews. 2. The tap delay function wouldn't go below 114 BPM - a big breaking point for me as my band performs a lot of ballads and this is not acceptable for a tap delay function .

FX Engine Noisy

By Nelson Headley from San Pedro, CA on April 17, 2017 Music Background: Personal use and volunteer sound engineer for a local group

The only reason I purchased the more expensive Behringer Xenyx QX1204USB Mixer over the cheaper Behringer Xenyx Q1204USB Mixer was the FX effects. I need a mixer that supports use of the Behringer USB Wireless microphone, I can live without effects.

If you turn the Stereo Aux Returns #2 (FX) more than 1/4 of the way up, you have a very noticeable hiss.
This is independent of the Aux Send #2 (FX) settings or the channel FX settings. It is unusable as far as I’m concerned.

Awesome Little Mixer!

By Samuel Wigal from Belepre, OH on March 23, 2015 Music Background: amature guitarist, pianist, singer and home recording studio

I have had this mixer for about four months and have used the USB interface to record and to playback audio and it works really well. I have not used it in a live situation yet though but I believe will work amazingly for that. All of the channels sound amazing and the FX are awesome the built in compressors are good and the I/O is good. After getting it however I have realized it is set up more to be used as a recording studio mixer than a live mixer; since it has an alternate output that is triggered by muting the channels that you don't want to send to the main mix (which is what would be recorded by your DAW) when recording. I have used the free software download the Behringer offers on their website but have found that I don't really care for it, as it does not have any built in effects and it's hard to to playback and record at the same time when using backing tracks or prerecorded tracks. So I found another free DAW to use that I like much better (Presonus Studio 2 FREE). If you install the driver for the mixer from the website (on PC) using studio one it will automatically register the mixer and that's all that has to be done, it took me literally five minutes after installing studio one.

Overall I love this Little Mixer it has plenty of inputs for me to use. I would totally recommend for anyone who needs only a few inputs, built in effects and a monitor send.
