The Last Amp You Will Ever Own

Kemper has changed the game. I use mine live, direct into fronthouse. No mics, not messing around, pure angelic sound, no delay between patches, no compressed sound, everything translates just like my old Bogner Shiva. (which I have in my Kemper now lol).

Last amp

I was very skeptical about the Kemper at first. I did lots of research on it to make sure it really acted like an amp. Once I got it, , I was truly overwhelmed at the amount of tones that I got, the fx were unreal as well! Because I love so many great amps I will never have to buy another one. Thank you Dave @Sweetwater!

Thank You Kemper!

My favorite guitar playing experience is sitting in front of an all tube amp, raised off the floor so that I am listening on axis, and feeling the tone vibrate in my chest. Does it ever do the same for me playing live...??? NEVER! For me, something is always wrong with a mic'd amp.I've tried going direct with a multitude of multi effects processors, again, not happy (mostly with the clean sounds). Does the Kemper sound and feel like my favorite tube amp...???? No, BUT:I can finally hear myself just right going direct, the tone is there and all the dynamics are there. Not the same, but extremely satisfied. The overdrive and high gain tones are spot on and the clean sounds are finally inspiring. The internal effects are truly usable and the variety is all there. The remote foot controller works better than any of my fancy pedal boards. One button press can totally alter the tone in a multitude of ways. I'm very happy with the entire rig and having a great time with it. Many thanks to my Sales Engineer, Bob Mondok (x1384), for suppling the necessary psychological help to go digital!
Music background: Aging enthusiast with occasional live gigs.

For the cost of a good amp rig, you can have them all. Love this thing. After my guitar, hands down the single most important part of my setup. I am using it purely for recording at this point.

Short and Honest Review

Let me start by saying I own an Axe FX II XL+ and I've been using the Kemper for roughly 3 weeks now. I was originally pretty skeptical about the quality of the amps in the Kemper before I used it, but I'll cut right to the chase by saying that now that I've had a chance to use it, I think the amps in the Kemper sound absolutely authentic. I don't fully understand how the convolution technology involved in the profiling process works but the organic quality and authenticity of the amps is truly outstanding. That isn't to say the Axe FX II is inferior by any stretch. It isn't. The Axe FX II is excellent in its own right and can be made to sound phenomenal, however there can be a lot of work involved in achieving the same level of realism. The Kemper has some of the most authentic sounding amps I've ever heard from a modeler, though. The quality of the amps in the Kemper depends on the quality of the original mic'ing setup that the profile is based on. If the setup that the profile is based on doesn't sound great, the profile won't sound great. But profiles based on a great setup sound fantastic! It really does sound and feel exactly like you're playing through an actual amp.Personally, I use the Kemper for its organic and authentic sounding amp tones while I use the Axe FX mainly for it's excellent effects.Unlike the Axe FX II, there's no PC editing software to edit the settings. Editing is facilitated by the knobs and buttons on the front panel. Not a deal breaker, but control would definitely benefit from editing software. The Kemper doesn't offer the depth / advanced parameters that the Axe FX II does, however this is understandable given that the two modeling technologies are very different from one another. The Kemper takes a snapshot of a setup including mic, amp, amp settings, etc. whereas the Axe FX II allows the user to build a setup from the ground up and tweak it to a hernia inducing degree. However, even with all of the capabilities of the Axe FX II, the Kemper's amps still reflect an authenticity that is slightly more organic and detailed than most of tones I'm able to achieve with the Axe. Again, that isn't to say the Axe FX II can't be made to sound as authentic, but you really have to know what you're doing to get the most out of it. Whereas with the Kemper, there's generally no tweaking involved at all. While the built-in effects of the Kemper sound really good, they don't offer the variety or depth of the Axe FX II effects, but then I knew that before I bought the unit.To sum up, I was really skeptical of the quality of the amp tones before buying the Kemper, but after trying it, I honestly can't recommend it highly enough. It TRULY captures the sound and feel of a real tube amp, and this is primarily due to the way the profiling technology works. I don't plan on selling my Axe FX II because I love it's effects, but the KPA is my go-to device for amp tones.
