Nice to have - should not be optional!

Footswitch is necessary to appreciate all the features of the amp, which is a great Amp. Particularly switching between the Solo function and any effects you have set up. As the first reviewer states, you can do a work around but having this footswitch makes it so much easier. And I like the tuner out feature. Somewhat sad the Amp doesn't already come with this - for the price it should. But I knew it before buying I'd have to fork out another $135 (same price as direct from Mesa, or off EBay for that matter). Plenty of cable length included to set up on stage. As always, Sweetwater customer service is very good. They followed up on my satisfaction with everything (order, delivery, component, etc). Buy it here and enjoy the Service and personal touch.

If you got the head, get the Footswitch!!

So... You have a Prodigy head, right??? If you want to be able to access that "solo" knob, you're going to either need to rig up a 1/4" shorting plug, get a tip to ground footswitch, or get this nifty thing that does it all for ya... I waited a week before trying out the solo knob (cause you can't do it without a footswitch) and I must say, it's pretty significant... The pedal construction is rock solid. The switches are firm and feel like high quality. The 25' cable that comes with it is nice too... Besides, you already spent all that money on the head, get a good footswitch to go with it... The "Voice" button switches between what you have selected on the front panel and the "Flat" voice. Pretty handy... The Mute is nice... and you can switch in and out the FX loop which I'm going to have to explore now... The tuner output on the side of it is a nice feature too... Get the right switch for your amp! This IS the right switch!!

so crucial it should be included

as stated in an earlier review, this footswitch really is a critical piece of gear to get the most out of the prodigy head. perhaps mesa/boogie should consider including this with the head automatically, rather than making it optional. being able to switch the solo feature on, as well as having a mute switch nearby, is really wonderful. if there was one thing i would love for this to do, it would be to switch between the different voicings, rather than just being able to switch between whatever one you've chosen on the amp and #3, which is the neutral setting. still powerful all the same, but depending on the kind of music you play, it could be really handy to have that additional tonal power without having to constantly return to the amp to reset. i will probably never use the fx switch, but for some people, i could see that being another bonus. aside from function, the unit is incredibly well built and the extension cable that is included should be plenty long enough for most situations.
