Peavey PVH 1516 - 1x15" and 2x8" 900W Bass Cabinet Reviews

900W, 8 ohms, Bass Cabinet with 1x15" and 2x8" Speakers, 3-position EQ Switch, 15mm Plywood Cabinet, Metal Grille, Black Carpet Covering, Metal Corners, and Spring-loaded Handles

A modern update of a well-loved classic, the Peavey PVH 1516 bass cabinet soaks your tone in vintage character. A heavy duty high excursion 15" woofer delivers truckloads of low-end extension. At Sweetwater, we've been especially impressed with what the PVH 1516's two 8" mid/high speakers add to our tone's top end. And when you push the SPLs to the point of break up - that's pure magic. A wide dispersion pattern provides coverage over a large area in front of and to the sides of the cab. A 3-position EQ switch yields diverse tones. Featuring road-ready 15mm plywood with rugged metal corners, a durable metal grille, and spring-loaded handles, the Peavey PVH 1516 is a killer bass cabinet.

LUDUS REBORN

Awesome cab!

By Daniel from Tulsa, OK on May 17, 2016

I'm an older guy who grew up with and still prefers the sound of the old 2x15 cabs I grew up with in the 70s and 80s. I've also been a pretty consistent user of Peavey products. I'm not willing to follow the trend of musicians of my generation who "downsize" to micro heads, mini cabinets, and neo speakers for the sake of their backs. That being said...I absolutely love my new PVH1516! I've paired it with an old Peavey Alphabass tube amp and could not be happier with this rig. Tight, fundamental tone is what this cab is all about. I've got cabs with a tweeter but usually just turn it off. The 8 inch speakers in this box do exactly what they should...tighten and define the notes without too many trebly overtones. I don't notice a lot of difference with the 3-position attenuator, but number 2 sounds fine to me. Solid construction. Not a beast to move and it has sockets which will accommodate Ernie Ball casters to make the job easier. I've played it a couple times out with a 60s cover band. I never minded Peavey's classic aluminum stripes, but this one is discrete enough to sit in a backline with old Vox amps and not stand out too much. If you need to slap and pop...look elsewhere. But if you want articulate, fundamental bass tone for classic rock or country, this is a great cabinet.

And a word about buying from Sweetwater...you will not find a better online shopping experience. Anywhere. Period.

Peavey PVH v EVH - Product Similarities

By William F Nappi from LAS VEGAS, NV on January 4, 2018 Music Background: Experienced

I don't feel REAL generous at the moment regarding sharing stuff I've learned, but I'm going to contribute this bit of trivia. EVH. You've heard of the brand. PVH xxx (where 'x' represents a variable that represents any given Peavey PVH series speaker cabinet. EVH worked with Peavey to develop his (Mr. Van Halen's) brand.

Same thing. Some people seem to have a problem with the low wallet friendly price tag. I like to get the best quality gear I can within my budget. I happen to think Peavey makes some pretty great cabinets. I like them so much in fact I've got maybe 10 of them in configurations of 2x10s; 4x10's; 12x2s and then some including Bugera (a subsidiary of Behringer who I also think is just fine, but some people Sweetwater sales engineer's no exception don't seem to think much of the gear because of the budget friendly price-tag; a low commission on the sale I - DON'T- KNOW.

Now I have this gem as far as I'm concerned AND I'm pretty happy with it. If it bothers you what other people think, then let them talk you into spending more money. I'm not saying you won't be getting better gear. A lot has to do with the construction and type of wood, as well as the way corners are fitted together. I'm done Merry Christmas. Do your own homework now, some people just want to put in their 8 hours and go home too or something.

8

I really wanted to like this cabinet, so much so that I returned the first one for a replacement because of problems with the 8" speakers. These things weigh a ton...

The second cabinet I received was fine, but the same issues with the 8" speakers soon surfaced again. The crossover is nice, but easily overdriven at moderate practice volumes, and the glowing "lightbulb" fuse starts shining out the front grill pretty quickly from the crossover board. The 8" speakers don't really 'break up' pleasantly, they just turn to static and sound blown.

I guess I will keep this one because of the hassle of trying to ship something so bulky & heavy back again. I will try to find some quality 8" speakers to replace the bad ones that the cabinet ships with.

The 15" speaker sounds good, and the selectable crossover on the back is a nice option, just wish they used a higher quality 8" speaker for the price of this cabinet.

I would not recommend this cabinet because of the low quality 8" speakers. Otherwise, it is built like a tank.
