    Gibson TP 6 tailpiece

These should come standard from the factory on all Gibson guitars. Professional musicians will appreciate having the ability to fine tune a string on the fly-even while holding a note. Given the "basic" machine heads found on most Gibson instruments, the TP 6 gives you a solid alternative to keeping and maintaining a tuneful voice for your guitar. The mass of the standard tailpiece and the TP6 are nearly the same, but the latter seems to increase sustain while in no way impeding with palm muting or the "feel" of the guitar. A "must-have" item.

    Essential Upgrade

If it is a Gibson, I put one of these on it. Period. It adds to the sustain nicely, and provides a finishing touch to any Les Paul, Flying V, or other that has the stock tailpiece. Of course, you get the fine-tuning capacity as well, and it just plain enhances the look of the instrument. This is one of Gibson's better inventions, and it really ought to be standard equipment on the LP Studio and really all others. The reason I give it 4.5 stars instead of 5 is that the thumb screws ought to get a slight upgrade into solid brass. As they are lightly painted steel, they WILL rust with perspiration. I do my best with extra WD-40 at each string change, but they still rust. If I can find a brass replacement with the same threads, I would suggest that upgrade to this upgrade. Otherwise, it works, enhances the appeal of the Gibson (or Epi), and does give some beef to the sustain.

    TP-6 tailpiece with fine tuners

Same quality as the original 1977 item I replaced on a Gibson RD Artist.

I didn't use the provided receptacles as the originals were OK even though the original installation prevents aligning the post screw slots the same direction. Looks a little sloppy. Be aware of this if replacing your tailpiece.

Fine tuners easily accessible are a nice feature on any guitar.
