Write, Record, and Perform Like a Pro

Every great song starts off as an idea - a simple melody that you flesh out with accompaniment and arrange into a finished piece. With a Yamaha PSR-S970 arranger workstation, you'll find that magical process smoother and more intuitive than ever. Loaded with over 1,500 amazing voices and 450 exciting Accompaniment Styles - including new DJ Styles and Audio Styles - creating rich music beds and fully developed songs with the PSR-S970 is as simple as playing a few chords on the 61-note keybed. There are hundreds of effects options to chose from, including Real Distortion amp models you can use with the PSR-S970's external input. Add to that amazing real-time controls and a full-color 7" LCD for easy navigation, and your'e just starting to get the picture of what this awesome arranger has in store.

Choose from a massive library of production-quality sounds

Borrowing from the Tyros series and many other successful forerunners, the Yamaha PSR-S970 offers you an expansive collection of amazing sounds you can use to play music of all different genres. In total, we're talking about 1,510 unique voices, ranging from bread-and-butter DX sounds to the Super Articulation Voices we've been impressed with ever since Yamaha first came to Sweetwater to show them off. Powerful onboard effects, including Real Distortion, Real Reverb, and other VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling) effects let you completely transform your sounds. Want vocal harmonies? Plug in a mic and fire up Harmony 2, and you can get singing synth effects courtesy of the onboard Synth Vocoder.

Accompaniment Styles fill out your music as you play

If you've never had the pleasure of sitting down at one of Yamaha's arranger workstations, then you're in for a real treat the first time you get your hands on your PSR-S970. Just call up one of the 450 onboard Accompaniment Styles and prepare to be blown away. As soon as you start playing, a professional band jumps in, filling in all the extra parts (bass, rhythm, accents, etc) around the notes you play. There are several ways Accompaniment Styles work, allowing you to trigger key changes, add in fills, and preform in many different ways, but they're all amazing. There are also exciting new DJ Styles, which let you free up a hand for the function-assignable Live Controls and Multi Pads onboard the PSR-S970, allowing you to create compelling and dynamic electronic music on the fly. What's more, the PSR-S970 features 40 of Yamaha's Audio Style recorded backing tracks, plus an extra 128MB of extra storage space just for add-on Audio Styles in addition to the 512MB for general Voice and Style expansions.

All the controls you need for performing and songwriting

When you check out the PSR-S970's array of controls, starting with pitch and mod wheels and spanning to footswitches, assignable Live Controls, and Multi Pads that let you trigger samples, it couldn't be clearer that this workstation was built with real-time performance in mind. Yamaha even includes a highly detailed 7" color LCD, which can do everything from display musical notation to provide critical instrument information at a glance - no more squinting at small readouts! And if you sing or perform with a guitarist, there are even more performance options onboard the PSR-S970, including special vocal and guitar effects to enhance your sound. Tie all of that together with a 16-track sequencer, audio recording capabilities, and karaoke-style music playback, and you have an arranger that's perfect for songwriting and live performance.

Its Amazing one (I wish if YAMAHA has made it before 10 years or more)

The nice thing about S970 is that they fixed all the issues that we had in previous models of PSR series and also they added too many important features such as direct voice recording and mp3 song playing, Live knobs, full microphone sound editing...etc Its amazing piece I love it. I wish that they just make step recording easier in the future Amazing Job YAMAHA team

OMG!!

I received my S970 yesterday and was blown away. Being a musician for 46 years , I study keyboards that come out before I purchase one. THIS keyboard is the bomb ! I have to make myself get up from playing on this instrument to go to bed ! The sounds are incredible . The rhythms are amazing. They even have a beat for Usher's " Hot in Herr " !! The fact that you can eliminate vocals on songs downloaded to a flash drive , makes doing karaoke even more fun. You can make your own CDs with this thing. You can create your beats and save them as well . Tyros 5 was too expensive for me but this is just right ! The gigs i play are once again going to be awesome. I had a PSR 3000 but it finally died. That really hurt but this S970 more than makes up for that loss. Every beat has4 distinct patterns. It has a fade button which makes you sound like a record fading out . There is SO much more you can do with this thing , i'd end up writing a novel ! Yes, the keys are not weighted but when you play a piano you have to be expressive. There's no need to be a Jerry Lee - like keyboardist ! Thank you Patrick for helping me me get this musical beast. The Montage is a great board but seriously are you really going to use all those sounds and do you plan on being a bodybuilder carrying that thing around?? Get this keyboard . You won't be disappointed and you could end up using a lot of work vacation days just to play this.

PSR-S970 Hands Down, Best Bang For Your Buck!

My tried and true PSR-3000 (circa 2001) finally got too "jinky" to depend on, and a few keys are becoming "ill behaved" with the onset of keybed deterioration. Like others here, I was drooling over the Tyros 5, but was unable to pony up that much scratch! Then I spot the PSR-S970! Having already demo'd a Tyros 5, I was pretty familiar with most of the "bells and whistles" it has. Reading what the -S970 has to offer became a no-brainer for me with my budget! Safe to say that if you've never played a Tyros 5 (or even if you have!), you will be hard pressed to justify the extra $3000! So, I bit the bullet and got the -S970. Totally blown away, and my PSR-3000 was no slouch! As others have said, you can't say enough about the quality and realism of the right hand sounds, and sophistication of the backgrounds, and all the recording features, and on, and on, etc!! As of this writing, I've had this unit for 2 days, and the only complaint I have is that I'm getting a permanent flat spot on my bottom from not being able to quit playing!! Some have suggested that the keybed has a cheap, chintzy feel and construction. I must admit that when I first tried it just before I bought it, I was a little concerned myself. What I found when I got it home and started playing is that the keybed (for me, at least) is very "fast", promoting a different style and approach to fingering. After just a few minutes of playing, I quickly became unaware of any negative feel regarding its touch. Rather, I started noticing that it allowed me to play riffs faster and with more precision "at speed" due to its very light physical touch. I can see where musicians that are used to a true piano action would balk at such an easy touch. I have played mostly keyboards and organ, so this was not a huge departure for me. Seriously, this is the best $2000 you will spend for a keyboard of this type, and probably for many other types as well! Just as with tennis shoes, Just Do It!!

psr s970 review

I know, you say another 5 star review. I understand that. I normally look at reviews in the same light. I do a single act. I have been performing with a Solton (Ketron) sm50 for the past 22 years. I do classic country and 50's rock and roll for fraternal clubs and mobile home parks(for Florida snowbirds in the winter). As you probably know, the keyboard has a split point with the left hand creating the style and the right hand playing the lead. That keyboard recently gave up the ghost and I bought the Yamaha PSR S970. The new technology has given me a whole new outlook on performing. I am now able to perform songs that were impossible previously. This keyboard has thousands of styles that give me a flexability that was impossible with the old keyboard. I also got a price from Sweetwater that was competitive with any other outlet(plus free shipping and other amenities). Make the move. It's well worth it.
