Wechter Guitars Pathmaker Deluxe Thinline - Natural Ovangkol Reviews

    What a Surprise!

I'm a Martin guy. Have been for years. I've spent the better part of a decade playing solo acoustic gigs, cycling through Martins...D-41, D-28, D-XCM. I upgraded my PA to include subs so I was on the hunt for a comparable thinline as my Martins would create feedback havoc. Looked at the old Gibsons, the Epiphones, etc. In my research, I kept coming across this guitar. The reviews were really specific on how pleased owners were...action, price, etc. I decided to gamble and bought one of these through SW. I had never bought a guitar online so not only was I worried about that, but I was truly skepical on what this guitar would be like. Out of the box, I was blown away. I must have played it for an hour straight amazed on how great it felt. I spent the summer giging with the Wechter as my main guitar. I've been told I have never sounded better. The quality of sound through the PA is superb...exactly what I wanted. I'm actually able to pull things off with this guitar I wouldn't even have tried with a Martin. Now the Martins sit in cases...used to play around the house with the kiddos. I don't even take the D-41 to shows anymore---that's how much confidence I have in this guitar. I think I'll buy the Mahogany model and use both...why not have 2 of these for the price of 1 of the "others".

So...well done Wechter. Superb product. And well done Sweetwater.

    It has the magic

I've owned a lot of guitars in my lifetime. A few seemed to spark creativity whenever they were played. This is one of those guitars. It's a great guitar to just pick up and play. The neck is comfortable and true, and the size and weight are a real benefit during extended solo sets. The music I play is a mix of styles with roots in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, and this guitar handles them all: rock, folk, country, blues, and all their hyphenated variations. I loved the tone of the factory-equipped D'Addario EXP16 Phosphor Bronze strings, but I did change to EXP26s, which cause less hand fatigue during long sets with only a very minor loss in tone.

I took off a half star due to the positioning of the tuner and the controls for the Fishman electronics, but I realize that it was a necessary compromise. The amplified sound is as good as any acoustic/electric I have owned.

I would also like to express my thanks to Joseph Secu for his prompt and attentive service on all my Sweetwater purchases, large or small.
