Just What You Need

After discovering that even the venerable Shure SM58s at the place where I was working had their own durability issues with connectors, and getting tired of questioning the cables themselves, I decided that it was finally time to simplify. I had been considering buying my own wireless microphone for quite a while and had decided to take the plunge. Having a certain price point in mind, as well as durability and feedback rejection properties, I looked at a few of them online, but was still at a loss as to which would be the best for me. The Shure PGXD24/SM58 seemed ideal, but in order to be sure, I contacted David Snyder at Sweetwater Sound and after some discussion of the relative merits of all the other wireless microphones, he agreed that this was the best choice. Delivery was a day earlier than expected and once I took the microphone out of its case, I was immediately impressed with its heft, but that was just the beginning. The frequency response of the SM58 was important to me and this microphone delivers on that perfectly. Setup and connectivity couldn't be easier. The price was a little bit higher than I was prepared to go, but the end result has proven more than worth it. It performs in the venue magnificently. I couldn't be more pleased.

Love it!

I do the sound and lighting for alot of Drag Show and other performances. With many of the Venues being non profit they often have donated and sub par audio equipment. Of course when the mics cut out, or get feedback (and just plain sound bad) its always the audio guys fault. I had previous negative experience with another digital mic i purchased,(of course bit cheaper) and had my doubts about this one. Needless to say ive done 3 shows and absolutely love it. Set up is easy and sound is great. I haven't had one instance of signal dropping out or any other issues. My sound board knobs are all pretty much at 0db and never require much adjustment. Before i was constantly adjusting when the mic was switched between hosts and the sweet spot was always some weird combination of increased mid-range and decreased high frequency. I also noticed Handling noise is pretty much non existent. its a small detail to some but it makes a big difference in the quality of the performance. Cant be sure on battery life-my longest show was 4 hours and it did fine (new battery's for every show) .5 stars deducted for the carying case. Everything fits very and it fits well but it just seems cheap and not strong enough to handle the rigors of the road. A bit pricey but so worth it.
