I've used the Shure PGDMK4 drum mics both for live shows and recording studio sessions, and have been very pleased with the quality and sound of these microphones. They're also extremely versatile - they can either be used with mic stands, or clipped directly on the drums!
Solid Purchase for the Right Setting
I am going to echo some of the statements from the other reviews. I have used these mics extensively for the last two months in my personal recording studio and came away with mixed feelings. We tried multiple miking positions, the OHs notably seemed to constantly pick up too much harshness from the cymbals, but with a Glyn Johns technique, they could be blended well for a good room tone of the drums. For the close mics however, I almost immediately ordered replacement kick mics and I moved an SM57 to the snare keeping the 3 smallest dynamic mics of the package on the toms. The included kick mic picks up both the low end and the attack of the kick well, it will work great in a live setting, but not so much for the studio. The sound can sometimes be too thin even with the best positioning possible. The tom mics are probably the most versatile, handling even the lowest 16" floor tom just fine. Again, these microphones are very useful for getting your drums fully recorded with close mics. However, the small diaphragms condenser OHs lend to a brighter, harsher sound, and the dynamics simply don't have the low end frequency response to give you fat, Led Zeppelin like tones without excessive processing in the studio. Use your ears to be the judge but check the frequency responses of your microphone and think of what tone you want for your drums!!

To be honest, this Bundle was a great buy. The sound quality was even better than I expected. would recommend these mics .
Great Mics at a great price
I bought these mics for my drum set for recording and for live shows, primarily playing loud christian worship music.
The clips are the best in the business. All the mics sound awesome!
My Toms and Snare Sound Great. I got the bass mik on my Floor tom.
live drum mic solution
small club owner? drummer going on a medium scale tour? alright, you might be on the right track
trying to get a decent drum sound for your project studio? nah. dont bother. come up with another hundred fifty bucks and get a beta52, a d112, some 57s or something. OR just save the money and use whatever array of sm58s and computer store mics you can find. seriously, if you know what the kick drum EQ needs to look like to fit into your mix and you know how to work your EQ plugins, you are going to be able to throw an sm58 down into the kick and not be much worse off than if you spent $250 to get the pg52 in this pack. snares about the same. give me a mic that can handle the SPLs and a linear phase EQ with a bunch of bands and im not going to be $250 less happy than if i had one of these 56s. not to say money doesnt buy a nicer sound, but if your main goal is recording, the money should be going into more specific detailed microphones.
they do really have the boom you need to get the live thing done for sure. plus, they are shure-sturdy. but live, you arent going to notice the weak lack of detail that its plenty more obvious during an attentive sit-down listening session.
