Glyph PortaGig 50 - Storage in the palm of your hand!

The hard drive's setup was fast and easy. Hooked up to my Mac book pro in seconds! I carry it in my backpack along with the cables (USB, FireWire and Power). FireWire transfer is very fast. And, the price is pretty good for the portability and storage amount. Amazing for mobile recording, taking files from one studio to another or to use as a main hard drive at home. I use it for mobile recording and taking work to and from different studios. I also have Glyph's GT 050Q. That is my main drive for home studio use. Glyph rocks with ProTools!

    Solid Service

This unit has been working fine since I first hooked it up. Instructions are simple to follow. My advice is to locate it with plenty of space around it Not sitting on another heat-generating device such as a Mac mini (as I did - the red light started flashing after a couple of hours and after moving it to a more ventilated spot, no issues to report). I wish all my stuff were this trouble-free. It's fast, does the job and I don't have to think aboit it.

    PortaGig50 hot but cool

Great little drive. I am starting to use one of these per project. My only reservation is how hot they get. Although I am starting to relax with that. So far they have been rock solid and a great working tool

    portable, speedy Glyph quality

This is the hard drive that travels with me when I'm on the road. It rolled around a backpack for 4 tours last year, and still chugs along, as a portable session and sample library drive. There aren't many 7200rpm bus-powered drives, and the shock protection is a plus for travel, as i've had drives crap out on me before under the same strains. I was disappointed to find it's not USB bus-powered. It does get quite hot if it's working hard. Keep it ventilated, and off surfaces that don't let the heat escape.

    Love It

I was very surprised at how well this little hard drive handled a pro tools 9 HD session for 12 hours of mixing with no problems at all. Glyph is the standard when it come to hard drives for audio. Very happy with the product.

    a bit Saddened

I'm sure for some small use this thing is perfect. But, when running sessions(with barely anything on it) it kept vanishing(possibly overheating). It mounts when it feels like it and ONLY then. It's a nightmare for a guy trying to travel with small sessions. I don't know if the smaller sizes are better but this one is a nightmare.
