    Incredible value!

I bought this bass as a backup to my main stage bass. A Curbow Retro 6er. Put a set of black tape Rotosound flat wounds on it and used it for the first time with a country act that I sub for. Wow! Beautiful, deep, mellow tone! Very quiet electronics in a room that typically is troublesome "buzz-wise". Fit and finish is every bit as good as any Fender that I've ever owned! And for $299? This one's a no-brainer. Great bass!

Great bass at a lower price!

I'm amazed! This bass blown away my head! Great punchy sound, I got a super lower action (1.25 mm on G and 1.75 mm o low B) without fret buzz! The neck is amazing! Super comfortable and great string spacing. Very, very light weight body.

    I'm so happy!!!

    A real "FIND".....

I am a professional bassist (20 years touring with Broadway shows) and have a large arsenal of basses. I own a FENDER USA P Bass 5 string and wanted a "back up" bass for outdoor gigs and to have as a spare. I have been hearing great things about the SQUIER basses and thought I would try this one. Since I have the FENDER USA version of this bass ($1450 street price), I have done countless A/B tests with them. Believe me, if you were blindfolded and handed the Squier bass, you wouldn't know that it wasn't the USA FENDER. It is THAT good! Fit and finish are 1st rate. Of course the USA FENDER has a bit higher quality tuners and bridge, but that does not take away from the fast playing neck and great sound. As a plus...the one that I purchased is light weight. I put some flat wounds on this baby and it captures all the retro 60's vibe perfectly. You can not go wrong buying this SQUIER bass.

    Just Wow...

The title of this review says it all. The fit and finish on my bass is flawless. The controls are smooth. The set-up from Sweetwater was perfect. Took it out of the box and immediately played a gig. It has the P Bass sound and feel at a price point that is hard to believe. I will never buy an instrument from anywhere else. A total "Homerun" from Squire/Fender & Sweetwater. Get one, you'll love it.

    Soulful and action packed

This bass exceeded my expectations by a country mile! .....rich powerful tone .....exceptional fretwork ...a great well voiced pickup...beautiful finish..... great feel...very tone and pitch stable even de-tuned 1 whole step (gospel style) ...it exceeds my U.S.A. built Fenders in most ways ....unbelievable value...reasonable weight.

    Phenomenal Value

I am VERY impressed with the build quality of this Squier Bass. I currently own one other Squier bass that is a VM JAZZ 77. It is a great instrument and I use it often for outdoor gigs when I may be more hesitant to take one of my much more expensive instruments out. On that particular bass I had a few frets to level and had to shim the neck but overall am pleased with the bass and it gets used regularly.

This VM PRECISION BASS V is in a whole other category when it comes to build quality. Everything on this instrument is finished well and it appears that Squier have stepped up the construction a bit for these newer instruments. The neck joint is nice and tight and well fitted. The electronics are tidy with very clean solder joints. The fret ends are well dressed with no burrs or blemishes. The tuners are solid and aligned perfectly. Overall it seems like a lot of care went into building this instrument.

The sound is classic Precision with a nice clear B string. I will have to adjust my right hand technique a bit with this bass though as I often dig in to the strings and sometimes the B string will contact the poles on the pup when I do that, which sounds atrocious. Not the bass's fault, but my technique showing its inherent weakness.
The volume and tone knobs are fluid and clean when being used with no scratchiness at any point in their travel.

The finish of this bass is just Beautiful! The 3TS finish looks great under the high gloss top coat (which I may take down to satin) and the maple neck looks great with a slight vintage tint under clear gloss. I typically don't like a gloss neck finish, but this one is smooth and comfy. I still may take it down to satin though.

Overall I would say buy this bass! It is a great value and I will be pissed if something happens to mine. I'd definitely get another one.

    A Remarkable Value!

"This is not your Father's Squire" that's for sure! I was totally blown away buy the construction, playability and tone of this instrument. I have played Squire basses before but none were even close to this one.

Right out of the box the action was very low and even. The fret work was excellent and there were none of those little peaks and valleys that one often sees when you look down the neck of an inexpensive imported instrument.

Typically Squire basses of the past were quite heavy but this one weighs in a a very comfortable 9 pounds 5 ounces.

I have owned a US made 5 string Fender P-Bass and this Squire version is virtually the same quality!

The only thing I would change would be the string retainer bar on the headstock which seems to me like a poorly installed after thought. I guess there needs to be some difference to justify the difference in price between one of these and their US counterparts.

Anyway, bravo to Fender for making such a high quality bass that is so reasonably priced!
