The New Standard in American 5-string Precision

The Fender Precision Bass is the electric bass guitar that started it all. This American Professional Precision Bass is the latest incarnation of that ground-breaking instrument. Designed from the ground up to offer you an ideal gigging and recording instrument, the American Professional Precision Bass boasts a bevy of player-friendly features. Your hand will wrap comfortably around the '63 P Bass neck contour, while you enjoy the blend of power and old-school low end delivered by the V-Mod single-coil pickup. The ubiquitous American Professional P Bass — better than ever!

One of the best necks in the business

Many bass players agree that 1963 P Basses boast some of the best necks ever made. Fender is re-creating the original profile in a 5-string for the American Professional Precision V. It fills your hand perfectly while still allowing you to move up and down the fretboard with ease. The neck's satin finish gives the feeling of a well-worked vintage instrument, while its 9.5" fretboard radius is more akin to what you'll find on more modern designs. And a set of Posiflex graphite rods is installed to keep the neck stable and straight — a very popular addition here at Sweetwater.

Simple and effective electronics

Precision basses have one of the most electronically straightforward designs out there. Yet their single-pickup, 2-knob setup has been responsible for a wide array of some of the most legendary bass tones in history. The American Professional Precision Bass V sticks close to its heritage with a V-Mod single-coil pickup. Designed by pickup guru Tim Shaw, this single-coil exhibits the warm and natural tones of vintage pickups, while delivering the clarity and dynamic range of some of today's best designs.

Player-friendly appointments

Though the American Professional Precision Bass V looks and feels like a familiar friend, it's loaded with features that enhance both playability and tone. One of the most notable is the HiMass vintage-style bridge. This bridge's rigid construction works in concert with the bone nut to transfer more of the string's energy to the body of the instrument, enhancing its sustain and articulation. And the American Professional Precision Bass V's fluted tuner design ensures you have optimal break angle and tension on your string posts.

Fender American Professional Precision Bass V 5-string Features:

  • Tried-and-true P Bass design with player-friendly updates
  • 5-string construction opens more low-end options
  • V-Mod single-coil pickup blends vintage and modern tonalities
  • Alder body delivers a balanced sound
  • '63 P Bass neck profile is among the most desirable
  • Fluted tuners keep proper tension on your string posts
  • Neck is stabilized with Posiflex graphite rods
  • HiMass vintage bridge adds sustain and articulation

I have owned many basses in my 30 years on the road and even though they have come and gone I have always held on to my go to 72 P bass. Now I've settled down and play casually. I went to a Jam session the other day and played a Fender American Standard 5 string P bass and even though I'm not playing all that much anymore I knew I had to have one but the new pro series 5 strings were just coming out so decided to pay a little more and get the new model. Within an hour my 72 P bass went in the closet and I am in love with this bass. the look, the feel, the speed, the sound... did I mention I love this bass ? If you're thinking about a good solid 5 string buy one... you won't be sorry by the way I love this bass
