On Par with my Sadowsky Metro

By Chris from San Fernando Valley, CA on January 5, 2015

Great job Fender!!!

I knew this bass would be good but I'm really impressed with the craftsmanship and fit and finish. The feel, tone, punch and snap of this bass is excellent and on par with my Sadowsky Metro. I simply cannot put this bass down! I really enjoy playing it plugged and unplugged...it's a joy to play! The active electronics are great and I like how they are very simply laid out. Plugged in to my Orange AD200, it's a beast. Clean or growly, fat bass tone is on tap. Best online instrument purchase I've ever made.

I have a Fender Custom Shop '64 Jazz (very mellow compared to this bass) and a 2006 Sadowsky Metro Jazz. I wanted a P bass but with more tonal options...well, I found that in this bass.

The Ash body looks fantastic and the maple neck is fast, smooth and easy to play.

Right out of the box, it was in tune and set up perfectly (thanks Sweetwater!). I like that Sweetwater takes the time to have someone do a spot check before they ship out the instrument. Good call on their part.
This bass comes with a nice hardshell case and lots of case candy (strap, cable, etc.).

If you're in the market, I highly recommend this bass.

Great Growl and Tone

This is one of the best sounding basses I own. I also have an American Deluxe Jazz 4 & 5 String. I play in a working band and it sounds and plays great. Buy this bass.

Favorite Fender

By Aproud1 from Cincinnati, OH on February 26, 2014 Music Background: Playa

I have owned many, many basses. Several of those different Fender basses and clones. I haven't owned many basses that seem as right to me as this one. No matter what I try I prefer the feel of a P Bass and really like the modern neck shape.

This one actually sounds like a P bass when the P pickup is solo'd. P pickup is dead quiet and sounds good active or passive. The J pickup is a little sensitive to noise but not annoyingly so. The J pickup works solo but is pure magic when blended evenly with the P pickup. Sound is growly fender but can be pretty bright with new strings. I tend to roll the treble of a hair but other wise leave everything flat. once my new strings break in center should be perfect on all controls. So the EQ points are well chosen for me personally. Preamp works fine, best one I've heard from Fender but certainly no better than any of the aftermarket pre's I've used. It is buffered so there isn't volume loss when you blend the pickups. Pre amp and pickups should be shielded but are not. This will probably fix my J pickup noise. This is the reason for 4.5 stars and really my only issue with the bass.

Build quality is very good. Neck pocket is OK. Not the tightest I've seen but I don't really care. I personally don't feel like it affects tone and it isn't sloppy at all. Finish is perfect. My bass looks to be a single piece of ash and the grain looks really cool under the transparent white paint. The bridge is fine. Fretwork is excellent. This is one of those basses where you can set it up ridiculously low and it plays fine. I am experience a little fret sprout but this being an abnormal winter I'm seeing that all over the place and it is easily fixed (seen it on some big $$$ high end basses, it just happens. Doesn't affect play-ability but it is there, barely.

The new tuners are pretty great. Light, solid and seem to have a perfect gear ratio.

The new case is probably the best I've seen from Fender too. Really nice without feeling too big or awkward and doesn't weigh a ton.

All in all a really great bass that covers a lot of sonic ground. I love it.
