THE BEST possible beginner electric.
I've owned this guitar for a little over a year, and I think I can say without a doubt that this is the best possible beginner electric money can buy. Firefly guitars and Harley Benton are also nice options, but they have hit or miss quality control. I played a squier once in a guitar center and the frets cut me up a lil. Great mod platform, if you wanna install push-pull pots, you can email the yamaha support about it and they'll probably tell you. If you want a really good relatively cheap mod, I'd recommend getting some AlNiCo pickups from GFS or fender. I can't stress this enough, this guitar is a must-have.
Great Guitar
This is my first electric guitar and sounds amazing. It feels and sound's great. And didn't expect it except it to come two days after ordering it.
best bang for your buck in existence.
I bought one of these pacifica's..And I love it..For $ its a steal..Its plays great, feels great and looks great..and yes, it sounds great..

hard to wrong with yamaha...
Don’t ignore a guitar because of the price
I bought a PAC012DLX several months ago after playing one for 15 minutes in a store. I did not know the price — I just liked the look of it. Straight neck, nice fretwork, finish, etc. It had just been unboxed and not tagged yet, so after playing I asked the price. The owner gave me $30 off, so I took it home. I have a couple of PRS SEs and a Fender Tele, and this Yamaha holds its own with them. I keep it tuned for Jimmy Page's songs — DADGAD and DGCGCD, so it is always ready. Really like it!
Hands down best electric guitar under $
I have Carvins , Fender Strat and Peavey USA guitars this base Yamaha Pacifica is a go to practice guitar for me it's quality and playability and feel are top notch .
Awesome Guitar!
This is my first electric guitar, not only does it look beautiful, the tones are beautiful too!
Farrrrrrrrrrr More Guitar for Your Money
I purchased this but because of medical issues, I had to return it. Just want to note that anyone considering purchasing their first guitar would be foolish not to choose this over Squire and other guitars. It was flawless-- smooth neck, beautiful & sleek along every curve. The sound was amazing, strong and smooth... like a purr! And at that price, the extra $10-20 spent is well worth it. You get WAY MORE guitar than some other models I've seen.
Once my hand & wrist heal entirely and I'm ready to get another guitar, this WILL-- without fail-- be the one I choose. Yamaha guitars and basses are seriously under-rated and under-valued... UNTIL she's in your hands. Then, it's like holding a lover's body.
Best First Electric Guitar!
Bought this as my first electric guitar and would highly recommend for someone who is looking for a beginner guitar! Thank You Sweetwater
Wonderful Instrument
This is my first electric guitar. I have messed around with acoustics before. This was a gift from my wife. It seems to be a great guitar for a beginner. It is very comfortable to hold and play. The old violin finish seems to be flawless. Stays in tune better than others suggested it would, but only after the strings were broken in. Intonation appears to be fine. Any deficiencies in sound are to be attributed to this player, not the guitar. I suspect this will work great as I progress. If I ever get another guitar, it will likely to be to try another styles, not because this one has failed me. I did notice a discrepancy on specs between Sweetwater and Yamaha sites. One reports the wood as agathis and the other shows it as mahogany. I am not sure of the wood type, but it is nice either way. I also heard from others that the fingerboard would be rather rough. To me the fingerboard felt fine.
Surprisingly good sound
I bought one of these for something cheap to put a fret zealot LED system on. I have a couple of other more expensive guitars one with an ash body and the other one mahogany. I have to say when switching between the guitars with the exact same amplification setting I'm realizing that this guitar sounds the best especially for power chords. I can feel the vibration of the body in my chest way more than the other two even though this cheap agathis wood is supposed to be inferior. I did make one mod and that is to put in a Seymour Duncan custom 59 humbucker in the bridge that I had sitting around. I had a a JB in it too and that was equally good. I'm not making any more changes to the pickups. It sounds great!
Yamaha Pacifica
I've only started practicing to learn guitar and this is my third one and it is awesome love the feel and sound of this guitar over my others. Great price too.
Must have guitar
Awesome neck pickups are very decent it's balanced well it's beautiful it stays in tune I wish I had found it during hard times it sure would have made them better
yamaha, quality
For the price it cannot be beat, it plays great, its a solid, well built instrument..It looks good, and feels good..I think I'm going to upgrade the bridge to a wilkenson VS50..and maybe some grover tuners..But I'm very happy with it
Not a beginner guitar.
I have had two USA Fender Strats, a 1979 Japanese Squire Bullet w/Lace pickups, Ibanez Roadstar, Cort, Ibanez AS93 and several others. I saw this guitar and decided to plug it check it out. Checked playabilty, tone, controls, action, sustain, etc. I read reviews "great beginner guitar" 'good first guitar", etc. So here is my take away. I bought one. I found out I could get more tone variety from this guitar than any of my other guitars. It didn't matter if I was plugged into tube (Marshall} or solid state (Fender) - it sounds great. I sat in the store for 2 hours and played this against PRS SE, MIM Strat, MIM Tele, Gretsch, Schecter, Sterling by Music Man. Pretty much any "S" style guitar hanging on the wall with SSH, HH or SSS. Just kept going back to this 200.00 guitar. It's not a good first guitar - it's just a great guitar. I'm sure I'll hear from the Fender and Gibson purists and that's OK.
A Yamaha budget guitar that sounds more expensive
I was considering 3 guitars, the Squier Bullet Strat HT, Ibanez Gio GRX70QA and this Pacifica. I did not select the Squier because of the output jack on the body, and I did not select the Ibanez because the sound is a bit different and always seems to be out of tune even when tuned. I am very happy I chose the Pacifica because of the warm tone that comes with the humbucker pickup and that it also has single coils for a bit more of a ring.
With its 5 toggle selections you get to choose the sound you are wanting to hear, and the fact that it stays in tune between selections is a pleasure. When I was reading reviews, I would often see people weren't happy with the Agathis body due this being a soft wood.
Once I had this guitar in my hands, I immediately liked the weight and balance. It is a solid build, and it plays beautifully for me. So, if you are looking for a great guitar in the lower price range you can't go wrong with the Yamaha Pacifica PAC012DLX.
Also, you won't ever be disappointed buying this and other gear from Sweetwater. They always ship the order quickly and provide excellent padding that ensures safe delivery.
Bang for the Buck.
Got this because my only humbucker equipped guitar will be soon out of service, and I needed a backup. Ordered it with another pickup intending to replace it after I got it, but this pickup really smokes. I'm keeping it in there. I'll find another use for the DiMarzio. Minimal fret sprout. Needed a new setup because I went from the 9's it came with to the 11's that I like. Loving this thing. Great beginner guitar for sure.
Fantastic value!
This may be the best electric guitar value out there! Sure there are better guitars but "most" people would never notice if you were on stage playing and singing with this Pacifica or a Gipson Les Paul.
My new Yamaha Pacifica
I have recently taken up the guitar. I had an acoustic but wanted an electric. I purchased the Yamaha. Received it It was packaged great. I took it to my local guitar shop and had it set up. I love the guitar and the service from Sweetwater.
Good for beginner
For its price I love it. It's a good guitar to jam with you buddy's. If you are a beginner you should totally get this.
Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Electric Guitar - Old Violin Sunburst
Great guitar! Love the look of this one and the finish is flawless. Packed well as always! Can't really give a review on how it plays as I don't play anymore. I had a bad experience with a table saw in high school over 50 years ago. So I collect guitars. :)
Always a pleasure dealing with Sweetwater! You won't be disappointed as they will take care of any problems you may have!
A thanks to Brain and the Sweetwater crew for making my collection grow :)
Great guitar to modify
I had the thing for 2 mouths before I changed the humbucker to evh Frankinstein now I'm able to do any I want with this guitar from playing Slipknot all the way to Steve Vai
Far better than it needs to be for the price
...sounds and plays amazing. Have owned one for 5+ years.
Neck and intonation are great.
The wood is 'Agathis' and must be inexpensive, but it feels solid and resonant to me.
Nothing about it feels 'cheap'.
Sounds great through my Engl also, both clean and dirty.
Exceptional Customer Service
I purchased a Yamaha guitar as a Christmas gift and it's awesome.
The price was great and it was hard to choose from the huge selection of guitars available on the Sweetwater website. The guitar arrived on schedule and was well packed.
I'll definitely be purchasing future gear from Sweetwatrer.
Thank-you for an 11/10 experience.

Hardware. Above expectations.
Price. Worth every penny.
Beautiful Guitar
The old Violin on this guitar is one of my favorites, I just wish it was offered on the double hum 120's. The fret work is flawless with no finger rash. The different sound selections are good. For a guitar that comes in just over $, it is a steal.
Surprisingly high quality
I bought this mostly out of curiosity. I have guitars ranging from thousands of dollars each down to this Yamaha Pacifica. Pleasant surprise. Great value for the price.
Good beginner guitar.
I like the versatility of having the humbucker pickup, and personally love the look of the Yamaha Pacifica. Plays good and I haven't had a problem with it after 6 months.
Disappointed.
After reading countless positive reviews of this guitar, I pulled the trigger and waited with anticipation for it to arrive. And what a let down this was. After countless attempts, I CAN NOT keep this guitar in tune, no matter what I try. I'm highly disappointed in my purchase. It's a definite return for me.
